Hello and welcome one and all, to Digital Spy's Next Top Artist Series 6!
Yes its already been 5 cycles of some amazing and talented singers, and we are back for some more. Who will join Lykke Li, Brandon Flowers, The Pierces, Vampire Weekend, The Noisettes and Frank Ocean, and take the crown of DS's Next Top Artist.
Myself along with dylanparton will be the hosting this series, in which we'll be keeping the Indie Vs Mainstream theme of last series, with a couple of twists. And as Dylan won the indie competition, and I the mainstream, its only fitting that we will prodominantly be hosting our winning halfs. But we will help out every once in a while.
INDIE & MAINSTREAM II
1. Like last series every player will mentor TWO acts. The first act, should have had 2 or more top 40 hits, they are the mainstream acts. The other, indie acts, are more relatively unkown, however as to not limit it too much this act is allowed 1 top 40 hit. These acts need to have recorded about 20 or more songs. The more songs they have, the more choices you'll have each week.
2. Every week there will be specific themes to which you must pick one song suits such theme. Example themes may be upbeat, downbeat, love songs, live performances etc. Some weeks the themes will be the same or similar for the indie and mainstream acts, but sometimes they may be different. You must send the songs you have chosen to the host by the time they specify, or the song list may be sent without your act.
3. Every act will perform in there designated shows each week. On Mondays Dylan will host the indie competition. And on Thursdays, I will be hosting the mainstream show. As the acts get dwindled down, we will eventually have both shows on the same night to speed up a bit of time.
4. After each act has performed, the mentors of the acts, and the viewers will vote the songs, in order of preference. Mentors are allowed to vote for their own acts.
5. Once the deadline for votes close, they will be tallied together, and a bottom 2 will be announced. The mentors of the acts who were saved will then pick one of the acts to save, the act with the most votes then stays. There will be no sing offs, and some weeks more than one act will be eliminated.
6. This will continue, untill only 8 remain in each category. At that time, the bottom 2 is removed, and the act eliminated will be based purely on the public vote. Once we reach only 4 acts left in each category, we would have reach the final, and those 4 will battle it out to become one of the winners.
That they're the basic rules to the contest, any other questions, either post it on the thread, or P, myself or Dylan.
Just to make sure we aren't so overrun with acts, we're going to set a cap at a maximum of 24 players. The aim of the game, is to unsure you dont use all your best songs so soon, or you wont have enough by the end, but at the same time make sure you choose good enough songs to get to the end.
So if you are interested, PM dylanpartyon and myself (_NiallDEE_) both of your acts. You have plenty of time to think of your act as sign ups will close on the 23rd of April, on which we will have an act reveal. The first show will then be on the first day of May.
