Just like back in 2011 when Sonic CD was re-released with some actual effort put into it, SEGA are now doing the same for the original Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and Sonic the Hedgehog 2! So far only the iOS and Android version has been announced but the rest will surely follow as Christian (designer and creator of the engine used for Sonic CD 2011) has pretty much confirmed he's working on it right now.

So what will be different?

- The games are now in Widescreen, properly done not stretched, just like Sonic CD was

- The game includes the ORIGINAL soundtrack as well as a REMASTERED soundtrack

- (not sure why they mentioned this one) The games run at 60fps (haven't they always? )

- New Time Attack Mode added with Online abilities to compete against your friends

The game will be priced $2.99 for each and is expected to be out before the end of Spring 2013.

I just can't excited over this. It's been ported numerous times so I don't plan on buying this.

Can easily be downloaded via phones/emulators (and there's a lot of brilliant sonic 1/2 hacks out there) bit of a waste of time

Scanlines this time would be nice, damn near essential if you want a perfect port and to play it on HDTV but tbh I'd much rather a Sonic pack via Sega's new Vintage Collection, I hope this news doesn't rule out that possibility.

The Original Soundtrack has been re-sourced from original synths and kicks and stored as higher and cleaner samples, a Mega Drive has never sounded so good before!

The channeling has also been expanded to fix certain bugs in the game where certain music channels would cut when jumping or collecting rings.

Also depending on how well this does (basically if it sells as well as Sonic CD 2011) then it would open the door for Christian to do more proper mega Drive remasters with titles such as Ristar being mentioned (due to ease of transferring over to the engine).
