Lost my little pal today :-(

Hi everyone, I got home from work about 2 hours ago to find my little white cat on the drive. She'd been hit by a car and tried to make her way home and unfortunately didn't make it. I'm so upset, I don't know what to do with myself. I just don't know how I'm going to get over this. She was my best friend, so loyal. Followed me round the house and slept on my pillow. I just can't stop crying.

I'm so very sorry to hear this, what an awful shock for you to come home to.

I went through a similar experience some years ago when one of my cats was hit by a car right in front of me, she was only ten months old.

It will take time to come to terms with this - allow yourself to cry and grieve as much as you need to, and don't let anyone try to tell you "oh it was only a cat" - they are part of our families, and we love them and have every right to be devastated when something awful like this happens.

Am thinking of you ((((((hugs)))))

Thanks. She's in the garage at the moment until my other half comes home to bury her. I can't quite believe she's gone and keep hoping she will get up and walk off. I've just been out and covered her up and said goodbye to her.

Awww. I don't know what to say

Just saying I am sorry to hear about your cat feels like a lame thing to say, but I can't think of anything else

Oh babes I too have been there. Big hugs. It is no consolation but your wee one made it home to her mummy and daddy. Take care. x

Oh I am sorry to hear that. I think I can safely say that most of us know what you're going through. It's hard for a while but it does get better.

I hardly talked to anybody for about a week, just shut myself in my room. But I was lucky. She was almost 19years when I had to get her put down.

You'll get through this.

So sorry to hear this, and whilst nothing will make you feel better right now take some comfort in that she wanted to get home , it shows she knows how much she was loved, and whilst you were not there and she was outside she did actually get home and passed away on her home territory.

Thank you do much for all the replies. My father inaw has taken her to the vets to be cremated today as my other half couldn't face burying her. She's going to be out in a box with her name on so we can keep her ashes. Sounds sad but at least she will still be at home. I keep feeling so guilty for not being at home when it happened, I keep thinking if I was at home she probably wouldn't have been outside. My family keep telling me not to keep beating myself up about it but I just can't help it. I'm in floods of tears as I write this. We have another cat and she is pining too so I should really focus on her but she's just not as friendly as our other cat was. I'm going to miss her so much.

It's a natural to feel guilty even though you have nothing to feel guilty about. It does get better so hang in there.

Yes I was very lucky to have 19 wonderful years with the best cat I could ever have had. Took 6 years for me to get another cat. Never did get used to the house without a cat in it.

They have a way of getting under your skin and into your heart.

Lovely messages skp.

Words can help. The vet said to me that she sees many cats but my cat's relationship with me was special. Maybe she says that to everyone but it helped me. (Also bearing in mind that I live in Spain where cats' lives can sometimes be cheap).

Thinking of you sarey. Give your other cat extra cuddles.
