The Unknown Factor - Live Show #3
Good evening ladies and gentlemen of DS forums. Last time our top 16 took to the stage for the first time in order to show us what they had and to try to win the viewers over as fans. We had a very hotly contested night with every act giving 100% into the performance to try to win a place whammy of e in tonights show. But unfortunately for Steve he had a double whammy of finding 2 of acts int eh bottom 2 and had the unfortunate sting of loosing Atle from the competition.
Tonight each of the judges was given the task of finding songs that related to specific GENRES. Some may have found this theme harder than others but its time f or them to come out and fight for a place on the next show. So lets welcome our judges and their teams Team Jack Ida Mikael Saari Dilana Emma's Imagination Unmentored Hope Murphy Team Barry Karoline Sejna Caitlin Mark Lowndes Team Kevin Misha B Sandra Van Nieuwland Matt & Sueleen Adam Martin So unfortunately Steve has now decided that he is no longer able to participate in the show for various reasons which I wont discuss on the thread. But that has now left Hope unmentored so I have given her a song this week and if she makes it through I will try to get her a mentor for the next show. So judges can you confirm your here tonight and we will get started?? |

So starting us off tonight we are heading over to Team Kevin and we are hearing from Miss Misha B. Misha was given the challenge of dubstep tonight lest see what she was able to come up with
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-S2cyWCnRrU Note: During the freestyle rap, imagine Misha B's rap style from 'Rolling n The Deep' |

Misha B: I took a massive risk with this song choice, it could have either went amazingly or it could have backfired massively but I was really pleased with how you performed it, your vocals were brilliantly suited to it, it was a really great performance which suited you down to the ground and I love how we decided not to play it safe but went for something slightly out of your comfort zone, I was so proud of this performance and you did an amazing job, it combined your great vocals with your freestyle rap prowess and it was great.

Misha B
This has probably been my least favourite performance by you Misha. I understand with this week we can’t exactly having you do what you usually do but throughout this song something felt really off which is rare from you because so far you’ve been one of the most consistent in the competition. The rap overall was probably my favourite part of the whole thing as it worked very well but I really thought the vocals didn’t match up to you that well. It was a decent performance and this theme probably knocked you off your route ever so slightly but you’ll be back next week I believe as Kev does know what he’s doing with you. |

So tonight Jack wasnt overly keen on the song from Misha but commend the rap from her. Lets see what way the public will vote. So next up we hear from the beautiful and very talented Ida who tonight was given a tough task of transforming a dance and electronic song. Will she be able to cope lets find out.

Ida: As soon as I saw the song choice, I knew that it would be this particular cover of the song. Yes it suited you well but I know for sure (no pun intended) that this particular cover has been used at least twice, once by me. This is the problem, the song and the cover aren't particularly distinctive because the song has been covered by so many people and this cover is given to every quirky girl going. I love you Ida but I feel like for the second week, it has been a slightly safe song choice and I do wonder if that may affect your chances in the long run as yes, you'll probably end up in the middle of the pack but is a middle ranking enough to get you far in the competition?

Jack has had to run for a bite to eat and will catch up when he returns A great performance form Ida, but Kevin was hugely impressed by it tonight. Saying the song choice wasnt distinctive and predicting Ida to be middle of the pack tonight but lets see what way the public will vote.
Moving on tonight and we hear from Caitlin Michelle who tonight is singing a rock song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2EH_rk3NPI |

Caitlin Michelle: I can't comment on whether the song fits the theme or not because the link for the source doesn't work, but based on this song, I think it's more indie pop than rock, however Last FM list them as rock so I won't argue. Anyway, this song was a pretty good pick, you sang it well Caitlin and it suited you more than last week. That said, it was all a little bit too sweet for my liking, I prefer it when your performances have a bit more of an edge and the song didn't feel like it went anywhere throughout the performance. It was a solid but not exactly stellar performance but congratulations nonetheless as you did a pretty good job, I enjoyed it but there's still room for improvement.

Well done to Caitlin another great performance. Kevin did say that the song choice was good and that it was a good performance but I get the feeling Kevin is waiting for more from Caitlin. But moving on with tonights show and the next act that we hear from is Matt & Sueleen who are taking on the bluegrass genre.

Ida
One thing one of the mentors wanted last week was for Ida the artist to shine through more and taking an upbeat dance song like Hey Ya and turning into a really meaningful slow ballad takes a lot of skill! The song is so quirky that it just really works with you Ida and Sarah Blasko is just a natural fit for you! I don’t think anybody expected you to really come out and nail a dance song like you just did there my girl and damn did you show everybody what you’re made of! It let Ida the artist shine through and also let Ida the fantastic vocalist shine through! You never cease to amaze me Ida, I couldn’t be prouder! Caitlin Michelle Caitlin this again really didn’t feel like you. I mean this felt more pop mixed with some country elements rather than the Caitlin I know and love from the audition and it’s the main thing I keep going back to. I think you’re mentor is taking you in a direction which at the moment isn’t that well suited to you. I mean first we had you singing a very indie based song, then Sheryl Crow and now some sort of pop country hybrid? I mean I want to see you succeed but at this present moment in time I don’t think you’ve done enough to impress me and if I am honest I really think your mentor needs to just choose an amazing song choice for you soon otherwise you’re just going to fall like you are now. Mattleen Now this is what I wanted with Sueleen singing more! This was really good for you Sueleen and really allowed you to shine a long with Matt which I am glad to see. I thought the song was very interesting and quirky for you guys, at certain times I did feel that the harmonies felt slightly awkward and weak but again though Bluegrass isn’t really your genre so I can’t really fault the overall performance of this song. Bravo again to Mattleen! |

Quick comment to Kev's comment. I honestly had no clue it'd been used at all and if I did I would've found something different but I honestly didn't know it'd been used before

Matt & Sueleen: Bluegrass is absolutely perfect for you two, it allows you to show off a slightly different feel as performers than indie-folk but it's still allowing you to do what you're best at which is singing your hearts out. I thought that it was brilliant, your vocals were amazing, your harmonies were amazing and your solo parts were amazing. I loved how in contrast to last week, this song had more of a racy feel to it and it just felt slightly more uptempo and quirky. Overall, I just loved it Mattleen, yet again you just outperform your rivals and do a brilliant job.

Well done Matt and Sueleen another great performance from you guys. So keeping the show moving tonight and we are now heading over to hear from one of our resident rockers Dilana who tonight may shock some people as she takes on pop http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0aXqcH3Bbk |

Dilana: I was really intrigued by this song choice, kudos to your mentor for picking something slightly different, going for a rock take on a classic pop song. It was certainly very interesting but I'm not sure that it was the best for Dilana? I liked that your mentor didn't play to his strengths and go for something more predictable but at the same time, I don't think that song works as a rock track as it just felt really out of sync or something, don't get me wrong, I didn't think it was bad by any stretch but I don't think it was great either, it was an okay performance.

Dilana
TAKING ON POP BABY! Dilana we took a huge risk with you not only taking on a really famous pop song but also taking it and adding this amazing rock edge to it! It was a really big risk that I wanted to take to show you can do more than these really unknown rock songs, you can take on these big well known songs as well. This was a fantastic performance and got me dancing and allowed you to truly perform the song how the amazing Dilana would! As usual you just did amazing Dilana and I couldn’t be happier after that! |

Misha:- Misha I really respect what Kevin has been doing with you, and he took my criticism on board in relation to getting you to perform more edgy material so I give him props for that. However while I can see Misha actually rapping this song, to me the vocals aren’t distinctive enough for her, I actually think she could struggle with the pacing of this song. Again a good pick in terms of creativity and imagination, however I just can’t see this performance working for Misha on a live stage, in terms of her vocal delivery.
Ida:- Again Ida that song would most definitely suit you as an artist but there was something severely lacking in creativity with that song choice. Your vocals were stunning as usual we know you have great pitch and tone. However instead of stepping out and making you your own artist, I can see you actually fading considerably into the background. Jack needs to start taking more risks with you musically, as you are showing nothing different at all, and to lose you early would be a shame as you have a lot to offer. Caitlin:- Jack wanted a performance that was reminiscent of your audition, well I don’t like to fully go back to the past, however this was following those connotations. However he got pop country out of this song I am still baffled. Maddy Walsh who sang this song is a rock indie pop artist, and this song mixes the full range of Caitlin’s voice. Caitlin is an indie artist, with rock and pop connotations to her voice. That is who she is, and her voice caters to that style. I have given her songs where she can play with her voice, this song has a great melody and has the fun quirky nature which the judges wanted. It mixes her delicate voice with her power, and that was your best performance so far. Well done. SOURCE:- http://www.indiemusicreviewer.com/20...und-the-world/ Mattleen:- This was probably your best overall performance guys, I really enjoyed it, and I love how Kevin is playing to your strengths. I think that you strive in intimate settings, and I cannot picture you doing anything else, nor would I want you to be doing anything else. We could hear both your voices so plainly especially sueleen tonight. What I loved the most was the use of the instruments throughout the song, it elevated the performance incredibly. It was incredibly touching and authentic, keep it up. Dilana:- This was a major risk for sure, did it pay of, im actually undecided. This is where my problem lies, all your songs so far has actually had a more similar rhythm and pace, and we aren’t really getting to see many sides to you. What I did like more than previous performances was the phrasing of the lyrics, it was a lot more clearer and less messy. There just is something at the moment Dilana missing, I have seen artists in this direction before. I would just love to see you there with that amazing instrument and sing maybe you and a electric guitar, a piano or maybe just you. Take the gimmicks away, because im telling you if that track is found where your voice can truly shine, you could steal this show away. |

Well done Dilana you took pop and you totally rocked it out tonight making that song your own tonight. Kevin commended your mentor for taking the risk but the question is will the risk pay off tonight. SO moving on to the next act and its time to welcome Hope Murphy to the stage

Hope Murphy: I commend how you've actually stuck to theme and picked a classical song but that is pretty much the only good thing I have to say about that performance, it suited Hope Murphy as well as it would have suited Adam Martin i.e. not at all. I get what you were trying to achieve with this performance but sadly Hope I think you were kind of fighting a losing battle with the song, it just didn't suit you at all, you could be in trouble I fear.
