Has X Factor lost its wow factor?
THE X Factor has lost its wow factor if yesterday’s audition in Colchester is anything to go by.

Cher Townrow was the only pop star wannabe during the first hour of yesterday’s auditions at the Red Lion Hotel.

Producers had been expecting queues, but were left trying to entice unwilling auditionees through the doors.

It is thought only 15 to 20 people attended auditions all day.

X Factor officials refused to comment.

It was a far cry from last year’s auditions in Red Lion Walk.

More than 100 auditionees queued from 6.30am to have a shot at stardom.

Ben Howard, who runs Keep Colchester Cool to promote the town’s music and arts scene, said: “I would like to think it was because the X Factor has lost its X Factor, not Colchester, but it was terribly promoted.

Cher, 40, from New Town, Colchester, had an unsuccessful audition.

She said: “I was just walking past and saw it on the sign.

“At home I can sing brilliantly but it just didn’t happen here.

“I’m surprised no one else was here though. There aren’t any people, I just don’t understand.

What an awful turnout for XFactor auditions. Just confirms that the show is past it and people arent bothered auditioning for it in the numbers they used to in previous years. Other better alternatives are now available to audition for.

Maybe the cold weather had something to do with it.

I like how you pick this report and not, say, Grimsby where there were 500+ people.

Some places will be empty and others won't be, that's how it works.

I also like how you cut off the very last line of that article, too.

Have you not seen the OP's previous posts? They border on that of a troll.

Not everyone has to love the XFactor, you know. This is a forum for all opinions and I think it is quite noteworthy (and shocking) that so few people turned up to an XFactor audition. This would never have happened 5 years ago and just shows how much of a decline the show has experienced the last few years.

Last year, very few people turned up to the Newcastle auditions compared to other citites. This year, it seems like other cities, there are few people auditioning. Only 500 in Grimsby whereas in the past, thousands would've auditioned.

It would never have happened five years ago as it wasn't offered then. These mobile auditions came in last year they aren't like the city auditions. They can now audition in many ways such as online via you tube Facebook and through family members. Social media has taken over. This isn't the auditions in front of producers. It's another way to apply

Err, these mobile auditions only started last year.

They're not the main open auditions at big cities and arenas where thousands turn up, which you seem to be getting confused with.

They're a team of two people and a camera in a tent.

He's not confused, he's deliberately spinning for the BBC and The Voice.

Why do people who make topics here compulsively feel a need to lie in the topic titles? I've noticed it in many topics, particularly ones related to the X Factor topics.

There's a big difference between "only 1 person showed" and "only 1 person showed during the first hour of yesterday’s auditions". The later is still not great, but its still potentially a difference by a factor of 20.

It's a sign, people are becoming bored of the show's format and they need to change quickly as there's obviously no interest nowadays.

Seriously? It's a COLCHESTER audition, and not only that but its part of the new MOBILE auditions. There may have been countless reasons for that happening.

The only real sign of the X Factor in decline is low ratings. I think there are a few on here that want to see the back of the show but this is not going to happen so they need to be active on something they do like instead of spreading their hatred here.

Maybe they have tried the voice instead . X factor is coming to its end of shelf life

If 100 people turned up at the same place last year, but only 15 this year, it's fair to speculate as to why. Could be the weather (although we'd have to assume that other auditions taking place were similarly affected), or it could be that the show is losing it's pull.

I know right? This always gets me when people claim that The Voice is supposed to be some amazing, credible alternative to XF. No one from that show has ever made anything of themselves. The fact remains that if you want a chance at success there is no point looking further than XF/Idol

Yet the mobile auditions today were completely full, so they've had to arrange for another date.

I think Olly Murs is from Witham near Colchester. Had they had auditions there in 2009 and Olly been the only person to turn up, would they have given him a chance?

Either that, or people in Colchester were too busy admiring the new bus station!

I went twice to the auditions (in the audience) last year - once in Manchester and once in Newcastle. Admittedly the talent in Newcastle wasn't as good as the standard in Manchester, but I distinctly remember James Arthur's audition there so it's not fair to say they 'failed'.
