'Nations sweetheart' is a campaign started by someones PR company and then they wait to see if its picked up or ridiculed. Usually has a short shelf live, and neither does it take long for negative comments to detract.
A common troll technique is to label people 'chav' as if that counts against talent.
It was start by very-wet-brown-nose Dan Wootton for Cheryl!

Cheryl Cole was never the nation's sweetheart.
I think you wil find she was, same as Alex Higgins was The Peoples Champion and Diana was The Peoples Princess. These are titles bestowed upon people of true worth

The person who dubbed Cheryl 'Nation's Sweetheart' was Carole Malone (NOTW).

Cheryl hated the title.

Depends on which nation you're talking about - Cole was never regarded as any kind of sweetheart by my people!

As Cheryl Cole seems to have lost this most prestigious of titles, i am unsure who i am now supposed to have adulation for. Has someone already been handed this title unbeknowst to me, or is it still unclaimed?
Knew Dame Vera Lynn is, appropriately and well deservedly, regarded as the forces' sweetheart. Cheryl Cole, the nation's sweetheart? Never heard that said, and nor should it be. WHY would it be?

She wasn't. As for the second sentence, she isn't.

Tweedy was never the nation's sweetheart.
This.

I'm no fan of her,but I did feel sympathy for her after BBC Newcastle (where she is from) were less than supportive of her 2 years ago after the NOTW closure.

The comedy topics were more important for discussion on their breakfast show (Hollywood movies for Wills and Kate) than Carole and others out of roles with the NOTW- even Daybreak got reaction to the paper's closure. So Carol Malia gushes in V/O's that BBC Radio Newcastle is passionate for the NE, but except if you're Carole Malone.

And then Alfie Joey, Charlie Charlton, Carol Malia and the other BBC Newcastle journalists expect her to be supportive?
