I was reminiscing with my Mum today and I mentioned that when I was little we used to have a 'thick and thin loaf', my Mum couldn't remember such a thing but I do - it was a loaf of bread with thick slices on one half and thin on the other.

Have I dreamt this?

Does anyone else remember it?

They did have them, yes. I'm half convinced I've seen one recently actually.

Though I tend to get an unsliced loaf and I can choose slice by slice.

Thank you diablo I was thinking I had imagined them.

I have never seen them to be honest. Good idea really. I do know that the Warburtons bread slices are getting thinner and thinner by the week.

Thin, Medium and thick, when I was living at home, we used to have medium.

I think these days medium is more like thin, thick is like medium and extra thick is what thick used to be.

We used to buy Sunblest bread, now and again Mothers pride, but my mum did not like it as it went stale quickly.

I'm 54 & I think I vaguely remember this. I'm thinking it was only around for a short while tho' - I might be wrong.
I remember the attraction of 'take & bake' too - bread you finished cooking at home - a big whow then!

Then we had thin, medium or thick cut bread. Goodness these days thin would be a slither!

I'm sure we're seeing medium as the olden days thick sliced.
Even xxx thick isn't really exceptionally thick IMO.

Calorie wise I go for thick/seeded for my toast and don't eat any more bread after that tbh.
I do love bread tho'. I'm digressing now.

Another thing that was around maybe 5 years ago but I don't see now............a 'small' loaf with full size slices

So each slice would be full size but there'd be half as many of them in the pack

So you could have full size sandwiches but use the loaf up before it went stale

I just put the loaf in the freezer and take out a 1/3 to 1/2 a loaf at a time.

They are around, called little big loafs, but the cost of them compared to normal size loafs make them expensive.

Saying that all bread is expensive now, Aldis is the cheapest for braces at the moment.

Just take half a normal loaf and squeeze it until it's thin.

I remember a thick/thin loaf - we called it a twinny, think it was Sunblest or maybe Mothers pride.

Hovis are doing a soft white doorstep loaf at the moment - it makes amazing toast, its only £1 for a large loaf at Tesco this week

Warburtons do this - I don't know if it's half the size of a normal loaf, but definitely smaller. As another poster said, they are expensive in comparison though.
