Cat eczema

Our Simba has had 2 bouts of eczema in the last 3 months, each time we've taken him to the vets to get an antibiotic injection. It clears it within 3 days.

I noticed 2 days ago that he has it again. Do we take him back to the vets, I don't know if regular antibiotics can be good for him in the long run?

I'm guessing no one's cat had ever had eczema. Oh well, it was worth trying.

We used to have one with eczema like symptoms. It was actually an allergy that caused it. He was allergic to fleas! Antibiotics cleared it up, especially where he'd scratched himself. Obviously the easiest solution was to keep on top of the flea situation, but one bite and he'd be scratching again. Could it be an allergy? No idea how you'd test a cat for one though.

Thanks for your reply Sesmo. He's an indoor door, no fleas. He only has dry food and water. Can't think what he could be allergic to.

Vets said to change his water several times a day, we used to do it twice, we increased it to 4 times. It's just under his chin, you would never see it cos of his thick hair but it's where he likes to be stroked and you can feel a scab there.

It doesn't irritate him, it irritates me.

Eczema sounds unusual in cats but could it be feline acne which can be caused by using plastic bowls for feeding / water.

Ah I just googled, it is feline acne, just thought it was called eczema as well.

He's always had these bowls (or similar) for his food and water, never plastic.

Its awful feline acne. My friends maine coon gets it. Have you tried washing the area with something like hibscrub it might work. If its severaly infected it will possibly need treating with anti biotics though.
