It will take more than these channels going FTA on Sky. How about they bring back Q TV?

Heat recorded it's lowest viewing figures since launch last month. Well below what Q got.

Time to bring this channel back.

It'll never happen.

They pulled the plug on FHM TV and gave us 24 hours Q so let's hope they see sense and bring it back.

I rather they pulled plug on Smash Hits and moved Heat but i'll agree Q or something than Kerrang/MTV Rocks aka MTV2 (not my type of music but I get your view point), mind you kinda pointless relying on MTV Live now since that too has gone "poppy" ie Girls Aloud and dame Cheryl

Since things are on a "revival" at the moment I wouldnt be at all surprised if in near future a "channel" is raised from the dead

Well Mojo wouldnt make much of a channel so would make sense to bring Q back. Maybe even Q radio to DAB?

Also they bought Planet Rock that could be an option.

I still think there has to be more music being catered for anyone into "alternative" as this mainstream "pop" is partially doing my head in (and I mean with these crossover its beyond contempt of what music has become)

I was surprised to see Q go as it was in my own opinion not bad to watch ie say there was crap on MTV Dance could go to Q and possibly a song not been aired in a while appears but now its the same stuff on all of them, I will say I like Heat personally as I listen to the station at weekends - they do seem to show some stuff I aint seen in ages (gets your mind off some of the music of now) but in general something needs to be done, as channels are just looking the same and as for "alternative" on Virgin Media its Kerrang/MTV Rocks, and sometimes MTV Rocks I am sure did at one point put some "dance" on it (correct me) but I would be going WTF??

Management of all these networks need to get their fingers out and do SOMETHING

Oh I noticed Virgin Media has now Vintage TV and good god I seen a Human League (Believe in a Thing called Love - Love action) and Gary Numan (Friends are Electric) (when was Gary Numan played last on VH1??? - I aint seen anything on him in ages but mind you I guess MTV just sticks to "cars" or one of his other songs

Vintage TV shows how a music channel should be run.

I'll agree to that but it takes another NETWORK to do this and MTV/Viacom manage to destroy their brands in less than a few years .... it says something doesn't it?? (roll eyes is not at you LOL)

Why does it have to be Heat or Q? Why not both?

They could.

Or keep Heat and axe Smash Hits as its too much like The Box?

or you guys could get real. It ain't happening, there's a reason they all closed. If they were financially viable they wouldn't all have closed...

Sadly its not the type of music what the UK labels want to promote thesedays.

I believe it could have been down to ratings possibly but that is a possibility and not financial since all these channels live off "teleshopping" nowadays don't they?

But is it not about time these channels had a MAJOR shake up than be LAZY with playlists and constant songs on repeat? Maybe that is the problem is showing chart rundowns/"celeb" countdowns/playlists

Even though I did not watch Q alot at the time it was still something different I felt but now most of these channels can't be bothered doing anything with the "viewer" and that is ONE problem I believe (but I wouldn't know what channels are like on Sky ie Clubland as I don't have it)

Trust me 30 pop music channels ain't viable either. Massive R&B recently closed and its a pop channel now but won't last.

Q never bad to be a massive hit as I'm sure Bauer channels must be part of a bouquet advertising deal for all there channels unlike the only independent service on Sky Vintage TV.

There's hundreds of music videos Bauer must have from bands like The Killers, Pulp, Oasis, Stone Roses, Travis, Coldplay, Kings of Leon, The Verve and so on which have no channel suitable. Some of these bands are the biggest sellers of the 90's and even recent bands like Coldplay have charted at number one.

I'll expect Bauer to find a way and dump them either on Heat or Smash Hits to be the "viable" options since when did all these channels really get this bad??

As I say Bauer is a large media company and Q magazine is still an iconic indie brand as is the awards.

Q never had to beat The Box channels like Kerrang were only launched by EMAP'S in the early 00's to boost the brand awareness surely? Even today Kerrang TV is probably the most respected rock channel with Scuzz and MTV having lost there way.

It won't happen.

They tried to make Smash Hits a dance channel but it would have required a proper rebrand to work.

Most of those bands don't suit Kerrang so they will only appear on Magic on the odd countdown. Once a month of or a few times a year?

Q playlist was much better than NME TV. It was spoiled in the end with cheap tv shows and R&B but overall
It was a watchable channel.

Many people like me who enjoy rock and indie maybe dip into a bit of chart music tuned out. I stopped watching there channels as they clearly don't care about playing a selection of music anymore. Magic is also no longer a channel known for classic hits.

Heat's low audience won't be helped by channels like Heart which have much wider playlist.

Yes to a degree but there's plenty of decent bands signed up still. Surely they can't be happy about the lack of coverage? I discovered a band called The Vaccines via NME TV. They even pulled the plug on the radio channel.

I'd even be happy if they broadcast these channels online only.

Believe it or not I still miss Classic FM TV. Can never understand why it shut it was one of the few quality outlets got classical music.

Maybe thats why I liked Q but maybe thats what destroyed the TV brand ... I could say that with MTV Dance if I was honest thats definately an MTV channel that has lost all meaning in what it stood for.

I remember that about Smash Hits I thought it was going to be a better channel when it done that but it ended up being a couple months then reverted back. Magic I have no idea what that is day by day but Heat I identified as sometimes it played in a way tracks of yesteryear - taking over Smash Hits role but I do agree there is TOO MUCH of the SAME music being played on EVERY channel it needs to STOP and they need to do something either MERGE the channels and CLOSE others as if viewing figures say they are low surely alarm bells should be ringing .... oh wait no

No doubt they hoped Heat would get higher viewers than Q but its effect seen the audience share on Smash Hits and The Box fall.

So why have they gone free? Well Sky don't care about music tv hence why they sold off Scuzz and Bliss. Plus The Box being pay doesn't help when there's similar services FTA.

People say channels like Capital and Chart Show are not performing but they are nabbing viewed off Bauers channels week on week. Capital could eventually perform The Box. C4 were mulling a sale of there stake. Do what next for Bauer? I'd put The Box on Freeview and it could become the 4th largest music channel or maybe higher.

They need a rethink of there current offering too. Axing Q was not the best idea. They could bring some other brands but Planet Rock could replace Kerrang and be a watered down MTV Rocks but that's not what people want. Sadly NME probably won't return nor The Amp.

There's a real lack of a channel people would sit and watch all day. One about the bands, completions, voice overs, video selections, cool graphics and message boards. Music TV right not is not the best place for rock music which is a shame.

It does make me wonder if all the great people who use to work on music tv have moved on in broadcasting as the people on charge of these channels now just seem happy to have them sit on a loop whilst they last on tiny sums of advertising revenue.

They have no reason to keep Smash Hits. The magazine stopped ages ago. By axing it it would help Heat and The Box. Maybe even allow Q to return?

I did wonder when I read it that Heat was launching and i did think the same way smash hits out heat in and Q stays but guess that was not their intention

Yeah the backfire has happened .... but I don't understand why they had to close an "alternative" channel down OK ratings/revenue maybe part to blame but come on your basically "alienating" a set of fans that are into that music - and personally I doubt anyone really wants to contend with Bieber and Cheryl being on EVERY friggin channel <<< THIS is definately what has ruined what music of today really is! It comes more across as if thats the music we all want when it clearly is not - as I am a dance and rnb person these crossovers have ruined both sides of music for me and half the time its static than anything else!

Regarding people in charge moving on wouldn't be at all surprising being honest you just got to look at the mess known as MTV/VH1 its the pits and the other network channels are just doing the same will there be changes in future?? I really can;t see it just now but I just think some of these channels will go over time or as a last minute ditch as MTV has shown lets all go "reality", yes and I wonder what this will look like in 10-20 years time, wouldnt surprise me if the "who is in charge" then will question what the hell happened!
