I'd pretty much agree with this. The first tablet I used was the galaxy tab. It's a nice tablet and works well. However since getting an ipad mini I think the ipad is a lot better. I've also used the nexus 7 and found my ipad to be better.
On the flipside ...

I have an iPhone 4S and generally loathe iOS. Its boring, has virtually zero design flair or creativity.

For me the Nexus 7 is a way better device. Now, I won't say that about Android as a whole - I've used plenty of Android devices that are utterly abhorrent, but in the case of the Nexus 7 and vanilla Android, i reckon its leagues ahead of iOS.

But as Rodney said, the various Samsungs, Nexus or iPads around are all pretty good devices.

It seems like no matter which one I pick, they all are a decent bit of kit. I'm still gonna go with the galaxy and see what that's like. Maybe in a few years I'll upgrade and try the latest iPad or Nexus or whatever else is up there at the top of the market. I'll post an update on what I think in a few weeks! Thanks for the help!!

The galaxy tab is a good all round tablet and good for a first time tablet owner. I hope you enjoy it

I wouldn't buy the Galaxy tab (1/2), they have rather outdated dual core chipsets (unlike the A15 dual core in the Nexus 10) which performs rather poorly. I know because I own a Xoom which contains Tegra 2 (found in tab 1) which is equivalent TI OMAP 4430 found in the tab 2.

Don't really agree - I've got a Tegra 2 based Advent Vega and the Tegra 3 based Nexus 7.

The Nexus is a better device all round, but the Tegra 2 isn't a poor performer, at least not with vanilla Android.

I've also got a BB Playbook, which runs the TI OMAP 4430. And for regular tasks it keeps up easily with the Tegra 2, but gaming - nope, the Tegra 2 definiely has the edge.

Having used both Android and Apple tablets I still think the iPad is a better device overall. I don't know what it is with Android but on tablets I just don't like it. I also prefer the 4:3 screen ratio of the iPad to most Android tablets.

Having said that the Galaxy Tab and iPad are both great devices so whichever you end up with will do a good job.
Agree with this.

I have a nexus 7, nexus 4 and iPad 4. I hardly use the nexus 7 now and find for tablet stuff the iPad just seems to work better, but prefer the nexus 4 as a phone over iOS

I think if you're going down the android 10 inch route you can't go wrong with the Nexus 10 as it will have the best support

I agree, I think Android is superior for phones but iOS for tablets. I was looking at the iPad mini the other day, I really do like the size, I'm going to see what happens with my Playbook and if BB10 appears for it, but I'd consider a mini iPad for the pocket.

The form factor of the iPad mini is geat. It is so light and easy to carry around with you. It even fits into my small handbag, so I don't have to carry a big bag around with me.

I think the Nexus 10 is probably the best tablet which isn't an iPad. Anyone desperate for Apple will by an iPad.

I personally don't think the iPad is anything special, yes it has some optimised apps, but in general I don't think it's much better than the Android ones available at all. It just comes down to what you're used to or find appealing. I suppose if you have an iPhone, then the iPad would seem more appealing.

But those used to Android I think would find the Android tablets better to use, plus all the apps from your Android phone will automatically sync and be available to download straight away. The Nexus 10 built by Samsung but sold by Google has the best display on any tablet, including the iPad. There is no screen on a tablet better than the Nexus 10 at the moment, and you can get one delivered pretty quickly on Google Play. I personally would go for that, but it all comes down to preference and what you like the look of OP.

It's so frustrating that you can't see a nexus 10 in the shop before buying it. I've heard so many good things about the nexus 10 but I can't consider it before I see it in the flesh.

That still sounds like an Android User's perspective on the iPad!! One of my friends got an iPad as her very first tablet some time ago and she STILL loves that it "just works" intuitively for her in all situations. While Android based ones are fine for many people I do not think they generate this level of novice satisfaction! I have tried both, could use either happily but still find the IPad much slicker!

Its really down to personal preference nowadays with tablets. Love the nexus 7 but didnt really like the surfing the net on it tryed loads of browsers couldnt settle on one really. The wife bought me an ipad mini its a great size for surfing and using chrome of all things.

Got my lad a kindle fire it suits his needs, but its really clunky

The other tablet that I also had and love and always think about gettting it again as the prices keep dropping, and maybe I should have got my lad that instead is the blackberry playbook. Its really underated tablet the browser is the best I have used and the overall UI is really nice to use. Maybe with blackberry re-investing a bit with their mobile platforms more devs will do more of the mainstream apps, though windows are pushing/investing to get up there with android and apple.

Were really spoilt for choice with tablets with the release of Jelly bean its really a good contender to Apple.

Im sorry, but i dont see the point of a ipad at all. Its 200 of good money wasted on a shitty piece of crap, why waste that kind of money when you could spend 200 on a loved one like your girlfriend/boyfriend make them feel wanted and loved before you get the piece of junk.
Can you perhaps elaborate on why, in your view, the iPad is a 'shitty piece of crap' and 'piece of junk'? I'd be more than happy if a partner of mine bought me one and would not see it as a waste of money at all. We have an iPad in the house and they are excellent, as is the Samsung Galaxy android tablet we also have so, as inciteful and helpful as your eloquently put comments are, I cannot agree with them!

I loved the PLaybooks browser until I got a Nexus 7 and used Chome and Dolphin which I find so much better than the Playbooks as they are quicker and more responsive.

I have the iPad 2 and the Galaxy tab 2 also had the xoom, neither compare to the iPad but the tab 2 is a decent tab and so is the Xoom, and the xoom seemed smoother than the tab 2 but overall would prefer the tab 2 to the Xoom.So I'd go iPad,Galaxy tab 2,Xoom.

I have the iPad 2 but recently have discovered that some of the Apps I try to download aren't supported - I have no idea what iOS means, but I tried to download audible.co.uk and it can't do it??

Am total techie half wit, so if anyone has any advice please make it easy to understand!

That one I can answer, it's the operating system for iPhones, the iPod Touch and iPads - their equivalent of Windows.
For more details see this article on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ios

Did you try to download the program from Audible's web site? If so, that's probably a version for Windows PC's. You need to download the version for iPads from Apple's App Store, if they've got a version on there. Apologies if that's what you were doing.

You probably need to update the operating system on your iPad to the latest version. If you sync your iPad with a computer, then in iTunes there should be a button which says 'Check For Updates' once you've connected the iPad to the computer. Click it and follow the instructions. Make sure you've done a backup of everything on your iPad first (also done through iTunes).

Unless he's on ios 6 and the app only supports up to iOS 5 of course.
