Went to a preview last week, it's a solid but ultimately quite forgettable action flick (Gerard Butler does have a few good one liners though)...

I prefer the look of the other one, White House Down. Both I'm waiting to rent though.

Saw this today and bloody loved it - best action film i've seen in many years. I wanted to watch it again when it had finished

I did laugh at the line "Why don't we play a game of f**k off? You can go first"

Just got back from watching it and really enjoyed it, it was like a good old 90's style dumb fun action thriller, reminded me of Die Hard (the good Die Hards...) mixed with Air Force One. Butler was great with some very funny one liners, hopefully he sticks to doing action roles for a while and leaves the crappy rom-coms behind. Very entertaining

I really enjoyed it and I too thought Die Gard and Air Force One too. The pace of the film never really let up which I think is a good thing.
Seeing at what is happening in North Korea at the moment I can imagine this is going to terrify quite a few Americans.

The funny one liners didn't get a reaction but some other stuff did. It didn't help you had some funny sod watching it who was sarcastic at times, especially at the very end monologue.

I think it's inevitable that there is going to be another film with this Branning character as this has the feel of franchise starter.

I went to a preview screening on Tuesday for this and loved it. It's a great action lick and one of the better ones that I can remember since the third Die Hard. (I also really enjoyed Salt, but that took itself very seriously compared to this and Die Hard style films).

But yes, as the above poster mentions, I wouldn't be surprised if there was another film with this character... I'm just struggling to see how they could raise the stakes...

Indeed. There's nowhere they could really go without it becoming utterly absurd. Don't get me wrong, the idea of taking the white house is absurd enough, but it was so well done you could easily suspend disbelief to go along with it.

But since they've also had the president taken hostage as well, that would rule that one out for a sequel. The only possible route they could take is for the president's son to be kidnapped maybe, and maybe taken to North Korea.

You could still have the "one man army" notion with Branning going into Korea to rescue him and you could still go pretty big with him taking down buildings, armies e.t.c..

Saw this last night, I honestly thought this was better than any of the Die Hard sequels, much more akin to Die Hard 1 than any of its sequels. A solid 8/10 as a popcorn action movie.

Really looking forward to seeing this. I'd heard nothing about it until I saw a trailer for it before watching Side Effects.

Die Hard in the White House says it all really. It certainly out-die-hards the wimpy effort that was A Good Day to Die Hard, that's for sure).

Gerard B is on top form as a taking no-nonsense action hero, who also comes equipped with some nice one-liners too.

It's got a frantic pace about it as well as being impressively violent for a 15.

One of the best action flicks in a long, long time.

Review here.

Great Film....does what you see in the Trailer.

Total nonsense it maybe, but done in a way, you just don't care...the action is Mad.

Add to the comments above. A great Friday night popcorn movie, with Gerard Butler at his most brutal best. It's like a greatest hits compilation of Die Hard, Air Force One, Executive Decision with a touch of Independence Day. The violence is suitably graphic (unlike Taken 2, DH5...) and Butler has some genuinely amusing quips here and there. The ground assaults are well staged and the aerial attacks are pretty impressive. And of course, with political tensions in N Korea at the moment, it's fairly topical in an extreme way.

Had the choice of seeing this, Oblivion or Evil Dead. Don't feel I made a wrong call. 8/10.

Just saw this yesterday, a great "balls out" 80's style action movie, take your brain out and just enjoy the over the top violence and fun. But it is a complete rip off, of Die Hard.

8/10

Saw this last night and really enjoyed it.Very fast moving although a lot more violent than I thought and I didn't really think Gerard Butler was suited to the all action hero, and throughout the film I kept thinking that Harrison Ford must have turned the part of the President down!Morgan Freeman,as always, was superb.
Recommend this for a decent night out.

I saw this last night and the only way I can sum it up is this review

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxcyB9bbPLo

But I did like Gerard Butler but I generally like him in most of his films so really only good part for me was him and a lil Morgan Freeman (cant really say anything bad about Freeman)

Was anyone else's screening quite dark? I know the lights were out in the white house, but I was straining to see anything during most of the action scenes, it was just a lot of fumbling in the dark.

Tremendous entertainment, only spoilt by an utterly predictable ending.

I though Aaron Eckhart was great, along with Rick Yune who was a fantastic villain.

Gerard Butler was good too & was convincing in his role.

PS: Morgan Freeman was born to be President!!!

I hope the people currently killing the Die Hard franchise have taken note of this film.

This film was what a Die Hard film should be.

I tend to avoid anything with Gerard Butler in it.

Very, very good film.

Of course, the toff nosed critics will turn their nose up at it given that it isn't a period drama starring Colin Firth but the people have spoken and they all seem to really like it.

Ropey CGI near the beginning when it showed you the extent of the damage in Washington but the action scenes were gripping.

Went too see it yesterday, very good film but very dark compared too the trailer!!! But the best part was the fire alarm went off during the trailers and as it was an 11am showing they had to evacuate the 12 people in the whole cinema for 20 minutes and because off the hassle we where given 2 free tickets for any film!!!! IRON MAN 3 3D here we come

Very, very average film.

They just stole the script from Under Siege and moved it to Washington.
