An interesting decision to network across two stations in this way. Is this the first example of a Bauer Place brand doing this?

sounds like the merging tfm and metro together totally robin banks at star has jumped on the taking the piss band wagon lol changed there facebook header picture to a Bauer style picture lol they have also called it TFM rather than TFM radio that they have been going with to me they should just call it all TFM or Metro or think of something new

I love Robin as a person, but his approach here is bizarre, it all smacks of someone who is a little bit too involved in radio and losing touch with life outside of it. Why would he assume the average Star listener (of which I hope he adds many) would be up to speed, or even have an interest in radio industry news and politics?

He seem to be making a habit of this very insular approach to this station, using quotes from "the forums" and digitalspy in production etc. which make no sense to industry outsiders and 99% of the audience must wonder what the hell they're going on about.

Programming your station for anoraks is a very odd approach for a small Sallie station.

maybe robins "shaking things up" has caused this however I think TFM has been on a slippery slope for a while since they lost Scott Makin to Hallam his top 10 at 10 used to be spot on I wonder if Tim Lichfield will be kept on aswell however its strange hes on on "holiday" this week when it all kicks off maybe Wayne and Amy will do Drive on Metro/TFM doubt it like but it may happen

Shortened name as well with just TFM on the logo.

Interesting to see if 1000-1900 remains local as presumably they have to locally produce 7 hours a day from Stockton?

Things must have been bad at TFM Radio surely?

Am I missing something here.

I thought Bauer radio have always promoted themselves as local radio so how is this LOCAL RADIO? How is Steve and Karen local radio? If this can happen why did they move from Capital.

Do we have three or four regional stations now with Smooth, Capital, Real and Metro/TFM. So many questions but no answers.

Unsure as to whether TFM is presenter-less at the moment. No links at the top of this hour.

Bloody Hell ... what a bad idea.

http://radiotoday.co.uk/2013/04/tfm-...re-with-metro/

The new TFM will launch on Monday with all programming originating from Metro Radio in Newcastle including Steve and Karen at breakfast.

A statement from Bauer Media doesn’t make it clear if the station will be completly merging, but RadioToday sources suggest everything on Metro will be broadcast on TFM, with the exception of split adverts and news.

Offices in Stockton will close with remaining staff moving further north from Monday. The TFM Radio name, and all on and off air branding, will be retained, as will TFM’s local news and information.

The two stations are in the same “Approved Area” of the North East, so permission to merge them can be given without consultation.

Cath Ellington, Regional Managing Director – Bauer North East & Magic Network North said: “These changes mean TFM will be even better resourced whilst at the same time retain its local connections and appeal to listeners and advertisers.

“TFM is a much-loved radio station on Teesside and we are confident this move means it will benefit from even greater creativity, improved content and allow the station to further grow its audience share across the region. We want to say thank you to all TFM staff who have worked hard for the station in recent years.”

Rival station Star Radio has updated its own Facebook header saying goodbye to TFM and for current listeners to re-tune. Breakfast presenter Robin Banks is planning an on-air farewell party on Monday morning.

Star itself of course is the result of three stations merging in the past – Minster Northallerton, Durham FM and Alpha 103.2.

Was this 'by any chance' inspired by Global's Capital East Midlands merger?

Both stations in the same area so they can merge 100% of programming without any issues..have to feel sorry for all the TFM presenters losing their jobs....all TFM HQ closing and moving to Metro...

There you go yet again, expressing an opinion that the listener is a thicko, and anyone with an interest is an "anorak"

What is wrong with promoting the fact that his station is "LOCAL" to the area , especially if a rival organisation decide they cant hack it!

This is terrible news, Teesside has lost it's only local ILR. Does this mean from Monday TFM will ID as Metro?

No. Read the press release.

But it does effectively mean the closure of TFM as a stand alone service. However, it's also a sign of the times, and an interesting one at that.

I wonder whether this will also mark that start of a new DS era where Bauer are suddenly the bad guys?

No it will ID as TFM. The brand is being kept.
So Metros Programs, with TFM Jingles and Adverts( the computer in Newcastle will play them out). Just like happens on Night Owls.
