It amazes me with the popularity of the revived Dr Who, that the BBC are not regularly showing repeats of the old episodes. Why are they on Gold and not the BBC? And when they do show them very, very rarely, they don't go on the iplayer afterwards!

According to promotional material we are supposed to get the Doctor Revisited shows that are airing on BBC America (up to Doc# 3 so far) and presumably these (like on BBCA) will be shown alongside a story from Docs# 1 - 11.

However when or on what channel these will be shown remains a mystery.

Given we've had nothing so far I would guess that the BBC have decided not to start showing any Anniversary related shows until after Series 7b finishes.

So at least another 7 weeks but I think it will be more like September (maybe showing one a week up until Nov 23rd) before they actually do show anything.

very much there was about 30 years of stories before it came to an end in 1989 so many more fans could watch

Sure, the repeats are being permanently being shown online on sites such as Dailymotion. Also, they regularly repeat the episodes on DVD.

Or do you specifically mean repeats where you don't have to spend any time, effort or money on but can just turn your TV on and it will be there? No, there's none of those.

At a time Gold used to air the full lot in the 1990s but they could easily put them on watch.

Even if they don't want to air a lot surely they could show the multi doctor and 1st/last ep of each doctor?

Or if they don't want to do that then at least make some available on iPlayer.

Does anybody else want them to air the DVD release of Shada so that it will finally have an air date?

The very least I desire from the BBC is a week-long retrospective on BBC 4, and a few repeated stories (one from each Doctor) on BBC2, running from August till November.

This will not, of course, happen.

We'll get a single night on BBC4, mostly consisting of the drama-doc and then a load of talking heads talking about the good old days. As for Classic Who repeats? Forget it.

The BBC are embarrassed by Classic Who.
Grrrrrrr.

channels seem to forget that Dr Who had a long life before its 2005 reboot if it hadn't come back in 2005 the 1963-1989 repeats would still be on i think

BBC 4 showed 'The Hand of Fear' as a tribute to Lis Sladen when she died, and it was well-received.

Would be good if they showed a selection of the classic stories in connection with the 50th anniversary.

The BBC probably just want to make money off the DVD releases, and that's why they wont show them on tv- incase people decide to just watch/record that instead

It's sad, because a lot of people would only watch if it came on TV, and it would introduce a lot of new fans to the older stuff. Maybe even bring in a whole bunch of new fans altogether.

If it's about DVD sales then why are the Beeb happy for the constant repeats of Nu-Who to be shown on Watch?

I would have thought they would take more of a toll on said DVD sales than the occasional one-off repeats that Classic Who gets.

It doesn't make sense to me.

In 2000 BBC2 started showing the whole series from Pertwee onwards at 6pm of an evening. Ratings started well, but by the time they got to 'Silurians' had nosedived, so the repeats jumped forward to 'Genesis'. When ratings continued to dive, the repeats were canned altogether.

Probably why there's some nervousness about bringing them back into mainstream viewing.

I'd be astonished if they didn't reappear, say one story per Doctor, by November.

It is disappointing the lack of classic who on tv currently. BBC4 also showed all episodes of the first dalek story when Verity Lambert died. Sci Fi channel showed Logopolis, two doctors and others 2 or 3 yrs ago. In 2006 or 7 now defunkt channel UK Drama showed one full story of each doctor up to Tennant.
I think there is hope though. I think things will start gearing up in aug/sept. BBC4 is now only showing old content as it has no budget for new programming. They do seem keen on showing reams of old programs endlessly to fill schedules (like old top of the pops episodes until most of the presenters from the 70's started appearing in court. in present day).
Although classic who still seems to only available on dvd that you buy, many of the classic who dvds are no longer available to buy. It would make sense to show some of these.

I'm pretty sure that no DVD release has been withdrawn. Some have been repackaged (a la the 'Revisitations' sets) but there's nothing you can't buy that you could previously.

A handful haven't appeared yet of course, Zygons, and The Tenth Planet most notably.

Regenerations is going to be crap. Stories already released just to make people fork out to get Tenth Planet.

You're quite right. I was referring to single story dvd's e.g. carnival of monsters, invasion of dinosaurs, spearhead of space etc which are far harder to get hold of than the box sets. Apologies.
My point was that some of the stories are in far wider circulation than others so could perhaps be better candidates to be televised.
