went to see this tonight and I gotta say I thought it was OK in a strangely hypnotic way but it's full of boobs and ass and crotch shots, thrown over a pumping soundtrack..

brother hated it, but I do see the cult following it may get.

some funny bits in it and James franco is good also.

I just got back from watching it and really enjoyed it. Like you say, it's the strangely hypnotic sensation that it creates that makes it enjoyable. Well, that and Vanessa Hudgens' turn as a bikini clad gun toting babe! James Franco was great too.

I loved the Britney Spears song montage scene, standout scene of the movie in my opinion.

8.5/10 for me, although it should be stressed that it definitely wont be for everyone, there were a couple of walk outs in my showing (mainly older people).

Yeah, it was really weird!
Loads of phrases repeated and the quick changing between shots was weird.
I agree about the hypnotic sensation, I ended up enjoying it!

Saw thist last night at Wandsworth Cineworld, and there were 4 walkouts.

Great poster, great trailer, great soundtrack, great cinematography.......terrible film.

If you enjoyed the hypnotic sensation throughout, then you will probably really enjoy 'Enter the Void' by Gaspar No.

Amongst recent films that I've seen - if you liked the 'Paperboy', you will probably like this.

Not sure how this got a mainstream cinema release.
The 18 certificate was odd as well (perhaps some obscure BBFC rule about not allowing crack cocaine use in a 15 certificate film).
Otherwise there was nothing there in terms of language . sexual content, violence that you wouldn't find in most recent 15 certifucate films.

Adults / teens looking for some Piranha 3d/ DD style cheap sexual thrills will be disappointed........ Those looking for a violent heist thriller will be disappointed......... Those looking for some weird druggy arthouse film experience will lap it up.

It didn't Vertigo are indie distributor with a wide release field
The film includes frequent and uncritical portrayals of drug use. Young and attractive men and women are seen to smoke cannabis reefers and bongs and to snort cocaine. The drug taking is depicted as normal, enjoyable and for the most part harm and consequence free. In one scene cocaine is snorted from between a woman's bare breasts.

In the one sex scene of note a naked woman gently rides a man as he lies on his back on a bed. A second woman sucks the man's toes. There are also several scenes of sexualised female breast nudity, mostly as young women party on the beach.

SPRING BREAKERS includes strong language throughout. There are over 20 uses of the term 'motherf**ker' and over 75 uses of other strong language ('f**k'). There is also some moderate bad language, including the terms 'bitch' and 'dick'.

Strong violence occurs during a shoot-out in which several people are killed with automatic weapons. In an aftermath, the camera pans across several dead bodies. Pools of blood have begun to form on the ground, blood trickles from a dead man's mouth and bullet holes are seen in the heads of two other corpse
It will be the uncritical portrayal of drug use that pushed it from a 15 to an 18.

Yeah, any kind of lackadaisical depiction of hard drug use as being no big deal will pretty much get an 18 on principle. Most 15 rated films with hard drug use show the negative side.

Although I haven't seen many recently to know if they're being consistent with that.

Yes comments and depiction of hard drugs has to be negative.

You can be slightly more uncritical of soft drug use at a 15 though. There's a comment in 21 Jump Street about "marijuana" (cannabis to British people) improving parties.
Jenko: A pound of coke?
Schmidt: We're trying to show them a good time not ruin their live
Jenko: A pound of marijuana?
Schmidt: Best party ever.
They got away with it because the rest of the film is about taking a drugs ring down and how bad drugs are...

I thought this would be like Project X/Piranha. Think I'll give this one a pass now

I'm surprised that the BBFC write up doesn't make note of the scene where a character is forced to suck on a loaded gun barrel in a sexual manner, the same type of scene in the recent 'I Spit on Your Grave' remake received cuts to a similar scene (although granted, the outcome in each film is very different, with the character in Spring Breakers ultimately seen to be enjoying it, while the I Spit on Your Grave scene is part of a graphic rape scene).

And TH14, it is absolutely nothing like Project X or Piranha, it's much darker and more "artsy" than those films. It's also not a comedy, I'd describe it more as a dark drama focusing on what happens when four spoiled brats go very bad.

I suppose context would be the major issue, because there was a similar scene, with friend chicken rather than a gun in Killer Joe, which was quite problematic and got the film an NC-17 in the States...

This is, at heart, an indie film that is only going to get the release and box office it will due to the cast.

But

Absolutely brilliant film although I get the impression that the director doesn't want you to enjoy it - deliberately jarring editing and music. Can't fault the acting - particular Hudgens ("This money makes my pussy wet") and James Franco (Britneys "Everytime" solo on the piano!!!)I need to see this again soon!!

I enjoyed 21 Jump Street but I think the film makers are taking the piss if they claim it's about how bad drugs are. The film is basically saying that drugs are fun, with a very tongue-in-cheek nod to the possibility that some people might have a bad time.

Well, the BBFC came the conclusion that the film wasn't glamorising drugs without input from Sony. If they felt it was, they'd give it an 18 and Sony would cut it to get a 15 (a la Pineapple Express)

I really wanna see this. I get the impression this isn't a film that is mean to be taken seriously or to be universally loved and I like films like that

I just watched this and wow what a film

I thought it was gonna be like a trash rom-com with sex and booze, but it's a dark gritty thriller underneath all the boobs and blondes. James Franco gives an incredible performance, to the point where you forget it is him. The four leading ladies are brilliant as well and it's lovely to see Demi and Vanessa do such adult roles

Really do not understand the hate, as parts of the film are very much depicted true to life.

I think this will become a bit of a cult classic.
I love the editing, the continuous loop of the music throughout the whole film and just everything

saw this last night, was intrigued by trailer and well vannessa hudgens and ashley benson!

brilliant film, great directing and cinematography, a cool soundtrack and as loads have mentioned it was just hypnotic.

the ending may have been a tad unrealistic but other than that i loved it.

It's actually not THAT bad, the ending is a bit stupid and the dialogues are repeated too often. Quite like how the story is told (the montage and the flashforward), the camera work and the soundtrack.
