That looked like a pretty good show from that 30 second clip, kinda wish I went to the tour now. Not sure if the clip is thread worthy but I like Rihanna threads anyway

Slapper!

She's just an attention seeker and the media love it.

Something for them to get off on.

She is a symbol of so much that is wrong these days.

If you are disapproving of the sexual elements of her performance, she's hardly the first female (or male) artist to do that. There's nothing Rihanna does that is a patch on the sexist nonsense you got with the rock groups of the 1980s, for example.

For me Rihanna is no more a symbol of what is wrong than many other artists of the present: Christina Aguilera, Gaga, Beyonce with her blatant commercialism, Britney Spears, or the marginally talented rappers like Pitbull, Flo Rida or producers like Calvin Harris or David Guetta are just as guilty.

I'm not a fan of Calvin Harris, but he should not even be mentioned in the same sentence as Pitbull, Flo Rida and David Guetta. Calvin Harris is actually very talented!

when it comes to Rhianna it's the whole package that is so objectionable whether it's videos, live performances or her media representation. It's all geared to titilation and sensationalism and keeping her in the 'news'. She's no role model, has no artistic integrity - just a cash cow for so many. Of course she's not the only one, just the more extreme example of someone prepared to prostitute themselves for fame and money. Yes, sex sells and that's been known always. But the cynical wayit is used and exploited and set up as something positive is sickening. It contributes to a warped view of women and how women should be and how they should be perceived.

When it comes to Rihanna, sex sells. Nothing wrong with that.

Madonna has never been above a bit of titillation and sensationalism, a great deal more than Rihanna in her early and middle career. But you can hardly say she is not a role model? Or may be you think she isn't?

When I was younger it was Cher, Donna Summer, Patti Labelle, Debbie Harry and my favourite, Tina Turner, who got some flack from flaunting their sexuality. To some degree it was to get them noticed and to some degree it was simply because they could.

Yeah, maybe modern women pop stars don't need to do that as much. But I don't see Rihanna as being much qualitatively worse than Christine, Britney, Gaga, Kelly Rowland or Katy Perry...all of whom have produced some impressive music at times.

It's not a competition - or maybe it is with Nicki Minger a nipple out in front.

Sure Rhianna isn't the only one but she's a good example of soft porn pop.

As for Madonna as a role model well she let's herself down too often. The bottom line is media exposure and making money however it's achieved.

Perhaps it would be more accurate to say they've had music produced from them.

The sexual elements in the lyrics of 80s rock groups never took this form though. They were either tongue-in-cheek (like AC/DC) or had a deeper meaning like Guns N' Roses' "Rocket Queen".

A far cry from Rihanna and "Come here rude boy / boy is you big enough". Rihanna alone has sent feminism back about 30 years, there's a generation of young girls growing up thinking that in order to be successful they need to dress and act like sluts.

I'm not trying to defend everything Rihanna has done but just trying to balance things up a bit. Women get blamed too often for what are male sexual attitudes. Some of the worst misogyny is expressed in rap and hard rock music.

In relation to the 80s I was mainly I thinking about the casual sexism of the MTV videos (Aerosmith, Mötley Crüe, ZZ Top). Donna Summer was criticised in much the same way in the 70s and 80s as Rihanna so there is nothing new in this.

Also if you really want crude try 'Whole Lotta Love' and 'The Lemon Song' by the imperious Led Zeppelin.

"Hi I'm Rihanna, I'm a slut"

"Hi I'm Chris Brown, she's a slut"

"Hi I'm Rihanna again, Chris can call me whatever he likes"

"Hi we're the media,Rihanna is a slut"

"Hi were Rihanna fans, how dare her haters call her a slut, she's our idol"

Ughh i like Riri but sometimes fans are deluded!
