I couldn't find the old TVDX thread on here, so in the hope that winter goes soon and we start to get some high pressure lifts, I have started a new one.

I don't know if people are aware of this but it seems that the Dutch terrestrial services NED 1/2/3 are going to be renamed NPO 1/2/3. Thought that I would mention it in case someone starts to see new entries on their EPGs

Is anyone on here interested in getting together for a DX TV outing in the summer? FM DXers also welcome. We have a great spot near Louth in Lincolnshire where we get good signals from the continent.

You mean Kenwick top I went there with Chris and met John a stunning place for DX.

Unfortunately here the only channels I can DX on is ch's 31-37 all other ch's are blocked.

I have received French TV on the channels mentioned but if there are 2 DX signals on the same channel then they block each other.
Dtt is a lot harder than analogue so I concentrate on FM-DX these days.

I think I need to move to the east coast or better still Kenwick top.

Morning everyone, when I requested a lift yesterday, I didn't expect that my request would be answered today.

CH39 is very strong this morning. Nederland 1/2/3, TV Nord Holland (RTV N-H) is blasting in here.

Nice to see that CH 39 is still giving decent signals (wasn't sure because of all of the DTT CH 60 clearance movement).

I can't see any activity anywhere else in the band.

CH 33 is also active with Dutch channels, but this MUX is encrypted and signals are up and down.

Some other Dutch MUXes are also active this afternoon CH 32 (Nederlands 1/2/3, Omrop Fryslan TV), and CH 53 (Nederlads 1/2/3, TV West). CH 39 still blasting away (been here all day).

What aerials are you using? Seems to me that a log-periodic would be best as it has a much flatter response than a Yagi.

I have a Blake XB16 (group B) which is vertically polorised pointed out to dea (direct sea path). I recently fitted a mast head amp (34 db), I was worried about overloading, but that doesn't seem to be a problem.

That one aerial also picks up West Runton (Anglia) and Belmont (Yorkshire) too, despite Belmont being located in the totally opposite direction and polarity.

I got all excited about you picking up Greek TV just for a second, and then read the rest of the sentence - Wow that would be a lift LOL.

Surely I am not the only one with great DX today?

Is anyone else getting anything?

Interesting! This got me wondering a little bit about where one revives DX-TV in addition to what was received. As I have family on the IOW during one of my trips there this "summer" (wotsat?) I might pop down to Ventnor then up, I think it's Boniface something and see if I can get Cherbourg et al up there.

I did check the band yesterday but nothing doing.

I have a 30 year old Triax 92 horizontal and a fraccaro 28 element log vertical for UHF.

The next problem is the 600mhz band is going to be used for DVB-T2 sometime in the next year which for me is not looking good.

I am going to have to take my aerials down to service the rotator and I am wondering is it worth putting the UHF aerials back up.

I am thinking about connecting a Freeview box to my analogue UHF DX aerial in place of my D100 tuner. Just have not had the time or energy to re arrange my small workshop around this yet.

Let us know how you get on. I am guessing that Stockland Hill, Wenvoe and possibly Rowridge might be receivable from Bristol. How about Oxford? Will the Irish transmitters be an option under DX conditions?

Ridge Hill too in certain parts of Bristol so I understand. Bit too far away for Irish tv.

Further west, Irish FM radio comes in quite well in high parts of Swansea in good conditions but even here I think Irish tv reception would be unlikely.

Having said that, under DX conditions anything is possible.

I used to receive Irish analogue daily here in the good old days until band 3 was turned over for PMR and as I have a PMR station 1 km from here that put the kiss of death on Irish TV reception.

All Irish DTT channels are blocked by local TX's Winter Hill/Moel-y-parc otherwise Irish DTT would be receivable here.
The other problem with Irish DTT is you need a Saoview box as my Technika and Sagem boxes are no longer suitable.

On analogue,during lifts,I would get good pictures from Crystal Palace Croydon Oxford Hannington Sutton Coldfeild and Sandy Heath. Sometimes Rowridge and Belmont would make an appearance. Due to the high ground I did not get much from Ireland on UHF or band 3. After Mendip DSO I got very ghosty pictures from Ridge Hill even in flat conditions.
So connecting up a Freeview box to my existing loft DX aerial should give some results.

Let us know how you get on, it is always good to hear what people have 'caught' and with the weather improving it is a good time to restart.

I hope you have some luck with that as a loft aerial is more likely to not receive UK TX's very well except your local TX of course.

Strategic positioning of aerials is the way to go as I have a log 40 H/P and can still receive Storeton 560w vertical 17 miles away and also despite the house being in the way.

My problem is I too high up on a hill so an example Sutton Coldfield horizontal polarised and 70 miles away can be received on a 28 element log vertical polarised.

I will come back to you all on this. I have to fit the digital setup with my existing analogue system as I still want to continue with B1 for a year or two for SpE openings.

Have I misunderstood? Some of you said you were TOO high. I always understood the greater the ASL is, the higher chance of successful dx-tv due o the curvature of the earth?

I think the problem might be that if you are higher up you will pick up UK transmitters on many different UHF frequencies - which is OK if you want to TVDX UK MUXs, but this will stop foreign MUXs coming through.

You can sometimes get ducts forming over long water paths which stay low. Strange though it sounds, someone on a hill can be too high to see 'into' the duct. The atmosphere is a weird beast!

The chances of dtt Dx in my area is greatly diminishing as 39 becomes occupied by Tacolneston and 40 by Kings Lynn relay both previously Dx channels. What is the most likely channel to receive French dtt on? I know the best bet for Germany is 37.

CH 32, 33 and CH53 should still give you some good results. I am worried about CH39 being wiped out shortly, I have my fingers crossed that with the different polorisation I might still get the Dutch signals creep through, especially as I can't receive Talconeston here usually.

Yes hopefully in Lincolnshire you should be ok on ch39 especially with vertical polarisation. Actually from what I can remember during the last good lift ch 35 gives a signal which Im pretty certain is Dutch.

I was worried that the move to CH39 on Talconeston was going to screw up any chances of getting Dutch TV from today onwards. However I am delighted to report that Dutch TV is steaming in here, on CH39 (Nord Holland Mux) this evening.

Also CH52 (West Mux) as well as CH50 (Utrecht Mux) are coming in strongly. The comercial (encrypted Muxes) are all active too.

Is anyone else getting anything?
