Having watched the show sporadically since being a nipper and loving Pertwee, i have to say i loved Eccleston, a fair chunk of Tennant and i love Smith's take on the Dr.....however i am finding especially this season so far and probably from the latter stages of the 'Pond' era that the stories are becoming weaker (imo) and i am finding it more and more difficult to muster enthusiam to watch the show.......

I expect that many may diasgree, but anyone else feeling this too?

I had to come on here and leave my mark about tonights show, never have a seen a better episode of Dr Who since it's return, for me everything was prefect, I said that Matt Smith's Doctor would get better once Amy and Rory have left and tonight proved that. The speech he gave made me goosebumps and the moment you see that tear run down his face I was also getting teary, this is not the sort of thing that happens to a 38 year old male. Matt Smith showed the world that he truly is the Doctor and I hope he does not give up the role too quickly. The story was so well written and the music was amazing, more so when Mary was singing, that was also a great scene, it was so full of emotion as Dr Who always is. If anything this showed the world why it has been going for 50 years.

Well said! And that monologue delivery.....just wow!
Matt is fast becoming my favourite Doctor.

It is fast becoming dumbed down tripe for The Great Unwashed. Bring back intelligent "Doctor Who"!

I'm starting to love it all over again since the Ponds have left.

If the previous episodes up to tonight had been 8/10 at least, tonight's would have killed my interest anyway.
I'm going to watch next week if I have killed myself from drowning my sorrows.

I agree with the speech and the tear on Smith's cheek, and as a 44yr old male i am prone to be teary at stuff that may surprise so i 'get; that but for me that was the only good thing in the episode and for me that's not enough.....although i do think Smith is outstanding still.

I had a bit of a 'lull' during Matt's first series, up to the end of the Ponds. I'd watch each week, but it was down to being loyal to the show and hoping it might get better rather than enjoying it.

However, since the Clara 'arc' started I've found new enthusiasm and interest again and particularly excited about what this series and the upcoming 50th anniversary has in store.

I love Matt but havn't really taken to Clara, at the moment she doesn't seem to be doing anything that Amy (or Rose, or probably Donna) would have done - in fact, in the Beast Below, her first adventure, Amy lost the Doctor in a crowd and got into trouble helping out a distressed child, etc etc - and the mysterious side of her story just doesn't interest me. But Matt is seriously wonderful.

In the immortal words of Billy Joel (well almost) "everybody's talking about the new sound, funny, but it's still doctor who to me"

This weeks wasn't great but thats always going to happen. On the whole I remain very much devoted to Doctor Who

People were giving Matt Smith crap from the moment he started. They wanted something different. Well, now the production team is giving you the complete opposite in terms of story, direction and characterisation as well as ideas etc. And still they hate it

You made your beds, lie in them.

Without wishing to sound like some " take-my-bat-and-ball-home" type, I've been thinking the same thing for a while now..

While understanding that pacing and emotional content has changed since the show was in its early days, and supposedly viewers have a shorter attention span, it just seems to have become "Doctor Who Lite".

The same themes of:
'Emotional string-pulling',
'The Doctor has been around a long time',
'Sonic screwdriver over-use',
'The Doctor makes a big declamatory speech'
'The assistant's family life'
etc
seem to be recycled in slightly different combinations.

Its getting tired and we need a new showrunner..

I expect that there will be people out there who agree with you, but equally I anticipate that the majority of fans/posters still love the show and if they didn't, they probably wouldn't be on a Doctor Who fan site. Sorry if I'm about to sound a bit harsh but every show has its ups and downs and it really annoys me how after one or two bad episodes we get a spate of people saying how poor the show has become or variations like this.

No, I've been feeling it since Smith took over.

Not that I think the problem is him.

I don't know what the problem is exactly.

I think it's the story's follow the same patten thus being really predictable.

Off Topic: I've not posted in a while when did everyone become so immature

I don't think what you say is harsh, as a forum's about opinions isn't it?

What i would say for me personally, is that i've always found that there are the odd episode here and there that i don't particularly like (although tbh i don't remember any i disliked with CE-maybe it's my memory) but not one of the episodes with Clara has grabbed me yet.....and i don't blame JLC....but there's usually an episode to break the run.....

Fair enough, what I would say is we are only two or three episodes in and the different Clara variants have been very different. The problem with shows like Who is when you have episodes stretched out, what feels like a long time (say a year) is in reality a tiny amount, maybe 4 episodes.

I was really struggling to hang on last year and the year before, I'm afraid I found Amy Pond and the story arcs more than a little tiresome. However, since Clara's introduction it's improved massively for me, and since the Christmas special last year, I'm really enjoying it again. I loved tonight's episode.

"As usual, the regular posters are the source of wisdom."

Because you share the same viewpoint?

I have been around here a long time, although i haven't posted much on the Who forum as i've always had the episode to break the run of disappointment but as stated above this time in my opinion it hasn't happened.....

My apologies, that was harsh. The problem is we get so many posters that are genuinely trolling or just spouting garbage that when it comes to someone who is genuinely a struggling fan that I do tend to get insensitive and say unfair comments. That particular line is one I'm not proud of
