I sincerely hope it's just you. I would really be upset if the BBC cancelled the show. That's probably not going to happen for a while, but if it does, I would probably genuinely cry .

I agree with most of this. It's nice to see that some people enjoyed tonight's episode.

Hopefully the episodes to come will restore everyone's faith in the show....
...oh dear, we have another Neil Cross episode and two Gatiss episodes...
...Maybe the Neil Gaiman episode will cheer everyone up...or maybe people will feel really let down in the event that it doesn't quite live up to The Doctor's Wife....

I agree, the problem is not Matt Smith at all - he's an incredible actor. I still think it's the lack of Russell T Davies that's the problem. I tailed off before the end of the Pond era. I just found it very convoluted and manic to watch.

While understanding that pacing and emotional content has changed since the show was in its early days, and supposedly viewers have a shorter attention span, it just seems to have become "Doctor Who Lite".

The same themes of:
'Emotional string-pulling',
'The Doctor has been around a long time',
'Sonic screwdriver over-use',
'The Doctor makes a big declamatory speech'
'The assistant's family life'
etc
seem to be recycled in slightly different combinations.

Its getting tired and we need a new showrunner..”

Not being funny but everything you mention there about recycling emotional string-pulling, Doctor has been around a long time, assistant's family life etc - did you watch RTD's series and if you did were you concerned about it then?

It's early to judge, but certainly the Christmas Special and these last two episodes haven't felt right for me - they don't fill me with excitement like DW used to, and they just seem disjointed and uncertain about where they're going.

And it's not just because I loved Amy & Rory - they're far from the first companions I've liked - but for me the change did increase with them departing, though it began at the start of series 7.

I think the show is now trying too hard - they're going on and on about how these are standalone, cinematic, epic episodes, and they're often not delivering. It's trying to get so big it's too big, and it's starting to become style over substance a bit too frequently for my liking.

I hope there are episodes I like as this run goes on, but I've never been so underwhelmed by the start of a series or half-series as I have been by this one so far, apart from the Specials at the end of RTD's era, which I prefer to pretend didn't happen!

Oh don't be ridiculous, there's no need for such hyperbole. It's different, but at least give a proper critique for not liking it rather than an unsubstantiated 'it's dumbed down' + rude comment,

I have to agree with some of this. The Angels Take Manhattan was the last episode I actually enjoyed. These following three have all been lacking something....something is most definitely missing.

I just don't have the same excitement that I normally have in the build-up to an episode of DW....S7 pt1 I was really, really enjoying and wanting the next episode straight after - the same thing for S5 and S6....it's just not there for S7 pt2

So far, I can't care at the moment but I can't blame Moff as he's not altered his style, but the show is lacking something.

Here's hoping it's only a momentary blip....

I assume you hated the RTD era too right? Because none of this is unique to the Moffat era.

Don't take this personally, but if you aren't a WUM then why do you post things to facebook then try to convince people they're from genuine sources? Why do you post unfounded rumours which, though they sound nice, have no basis, whilst trying unconvincingly to tell everyone that they do?

I'm the opposite - I have a genuine excitement for the show again because I'm really enjoying Clara! I went off the Ponds towards their second series and even though River Song remains one of my all time favourite characters, 'too much of a good thing' is all too true for her.

Now this is really strange for me. Series 5 and 6 are my favourites, Matt is my favourite Doctor and Steven Moffat is my favourite show runner out of him and Russell T Davies. Series 7 up to The Snowmen was brilliant. Asylum Of The Daleks was perfect, my favourite episode of this series up to now. Dinosaurs was good, really fun and then dark at the end, Mercy gets better upon viewing. Power Of Three was good even though it was a bit anti-climatic and Angels was brilliant. The Snowmen is my favourite Christmas special yet (closely followed by A Christmas Carol), it was just wonderful it was brilliant.

Then after the episode we were treated to a trailer which made the rest of series 7 look fantastic. Then just before The Bells Of St John we had another trailer which made me think that series 7 could be the best yet. The Bells Of St John was brilliant upon viewing, if a little rushed, but something weird happened. After watching I read a lot of posts on this forum saying how much they really didn't like the episode and it made me wonder if I actually enjoyed the episode as much as I thought I had. I started to think it wasn't actually that good and Clara wasn't as brilliant as I thought she was. But then I've watched it again (albeit in parts) and I still thought it was brilliant.

There was nothing wrong with tonights episode, the only thing I can fault it on was the underuse of The Vigil, but even though it was done rather well I didn't enjoy it that much. So it's brought back that feeling that Doctor Who might not be that good anymore and it's really worrying me. The rest of the episodes all look so promising but I'm worried my expectations are too high and the episodes won't deliver. Maybe it's the forum, should I take a forum holiday? I might be influenced too much by the opinions of others

A few posters loved the episode, myself included. If the negativity is getting to you, that's what The Whoonie Inn is for; a chit chat thread where you can escape the forum hubbub, bub

On the subject of caring less for Who, for the first time ever I am seriously thinking about not buying the series DVD / BluRay. So far, apart from Dinosaurs and bits of The Snowmen there is nothing I would want to watch again. I really hope the next six episodes are better and that they do sway me to buying the box set.

Clara really is shaping up to be an excellent choice and character.

totally agree about the ponds and riversong she needs to appear now only when its vital for the story not as some added extra.

Me too I was a bit sceptical and angry with Moffat a few weeks ago when he quoted that the anniversary special was more about looking forward than back but I was proven wrong when the news about Tennant and Piper appearing was leaked. So I haven't lost interest in the show I love it as much as I always have.

Oh gosh, I'm the complete opposite.

For me, the character of River Song represents everything that I don't like about the Dr Who re-boot.

I'm a big fan, am proud to have got my kids hooked, but I am increasingly annoyed by the preponderance of the ultra-feisty, know-it-all sidekick. I just find those characters deeply annoying, and I'm fed up with how many times the sidekick seems integral to the story, saving the Doctor's life, or knowing more than he does

Maybe I'm looking back on the past with rose-tinted glasses, but I recall the sidekick role being more about helping the narrative along. While I'm OK with the Doctor having some vulnerabilities, I think they have been given far too much prominence, and it's getting worse. #

Sorry... (probably best not to fall out with a mod, but that's my view)

After the first couple of shows with Matt Smith, I began to find them hard work. Think the Dr and the Ponds were all good actors but it didn't seem to work for me.

Felt rather than acting out a story they were being pushed to run around and scream a lot to try and make the stories seem more exciting. Shame.

Not now, I had my disillusionment with the show during series 4 - the whole "Doctor as tourist" thing - and the "specials" year which was anything but. Since then its been on the up and up - IMHO of course
