HDR-FOX T2 USB stick

Can anyone recommend a USB stick that works with this. I have been using a Play.com brand but if I leave the stick plugged in the next time I try and turn on the T2 it wont start and locks up so I have to switch off the power remove the USB stick and then it will start up normally. The stick works ok if I plug it in after the T2 has been switched on and on my PC.

Are you restricted to USB flash drives?

Buffalo MiniStation Slim 1TB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive for about £60 works

There is a smaller/cheaper vertion
Buffalo Ministation 500GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Disk Drive for about £45

I think that they come formated in NTFS but there are a number of free utilities to format them in Fat32 unless you've customised your HDR-Fox-T2 so that it can write as well as read NTFS.

Thanks for you reply. I could get a Buffalo. My T2 is bog standard. Is the problem with the formatting ? My USB stick is formated to Fat 32. I just wondered if anyone had a reliable USB stick working with the T2 as I need to buy another anyway

Just found a very confusing post over at hummy.tv.
http://hummy.tv/forum/threads/humax-...attached.2266/

I've powered on with a couple of the new style 1TB Buffalo HDDs. One is formated by the HDR-Fox-T2 (i.e. ext3 inode 256) and the other is fat32 which originally took took hours to format.

With the fat32 I probably power on with it attached about once a week and have no issues.

USB FLASH: I have just tried a SanDisk 32GB Cruzer Fit USB Flash Drive a couple of times without issue. Not exactly the fastest write speed but the write speed of the HDR-FOX-T2 is not demanding.

Is it necessary to remove the software that comes on the SanDisk 32GB Cruzer ?

I don't use the supplied SecureAccess software.

I still have the supplied SecureAccess software on the drive so I moved it back to the root. The HDR-Fox-T2 sill does not have an issue with it when booting. Because it is so discrete it does not look too bad in the front port of the HDR-Fox-t2. Also the light on it is not as bright as most USB sticks which means that I wouldn't find it as distracting as the HDR-Fox-T2s light ring.
The main disadvantage is that there is not much to get hold of when removing it and although it does have a hook for attaching a landline there have been reports of it breaking when people have tried to yank on the landline to remove it from a USB port.

May I ask a question? Why are you after a USB flash? Is it because you want something discrete to force the HDR-Fox-T2 to recognise a virtual disk without the USB icons being displayed when booting up?

The problem on the hummy.tv site was due to a USB3 device drawing too much power from the Humax USB socket

No evidence was given for that.

As I said I've powered on with a couple of the new style 1TB Buffalo HDDs. I.e. USB3, with zero issues.

I now have a Sandisk Cruzer. The T2 seems to boot up OK with it plugged in. I unistalled the U3 on my PC and it formated automatically in the uninstallation U3 program. I tried to format in the HDR T2 system / Storage/ format and selecting the Cruzer but the format selection was greyed out . How did you format the Cuzer or was that just the Buffalo HD ?
