What 'type' of act will win this year?

Just a general question really; I'm praying for a comedian this year, been far too many singers and dancers.

Well let's just break it down:

Series 1 - Paul Potts - Singing
Series 2 - George Sampson - Dancing
Series 3 - Diversity - Dancing
Series 4 - Spelbound - Gymastics
Series 5 - Jai McDowal - Singing
Series 6 - Ashleigh and Pudsey - Dog Act

If you look at the pattern that appears to have emmerged: every other year has been either a singing or dancing act, with the others made up from gymnastics or the dog act.

1/3 chance of it being a singer / group
1/3 chance of it being a dancer / dance troupe
1/6 chance of it being a gymnast
1/6 chance of it being a dog act

But there is still a chance it could be something new. Statistically though, it looks more likely to be a singer or dancer as they are, statistically, more successful.

It it is not a singer or dancer, I'd put my money on a comedian

I wouldn't mind a comedian, as long as they are not young or an impressionist.

Dancing and singing winners have been done to death

And now a dog act has won, the only boxes left to tick now are impressionist, comedian, magician and ventriloquist

Unless we have suddenly discovered a way to see in to the future. Then i have no bloody idea

A really good comedian as I don't think we've really seen much over the years get really far.

Paul Burling was great, Les Gibson was good but he kind of fell apart in the final (his script failed him), and Callum Oakley last year could have done with some stronger material.

A magician, or especially, something really original. I wouldn't mind seeing singers, as long as there is a reason as to why they entered BGT instead of X Factor. Of course, the likes of Paul Potts, Susan Boyle, Jonathan & Charlotte, and some of the kids wouldn't go for X Factor, particularly due to the pressure it would endure for them and the fact it isn't suited to them. But The Mend only went through BGT due to the fact they were eliminated from X Factor because they had a management deal, but that rule (which they broke) doesn't exist anymore (well, since last series) but they didn't know, and probably BGT was the better platform for the type of band they are despite the fact it didn't really propel them to stardom, with their debut single only reaching #67 in the UK charts.

A world class singer is what I think Cowell will hope for in his war against The Voice.

I'd love to see a comedian or magician win. But, they usually have the hardest time having to get each performance good enough to make people want to see more/vote for them.

I can see them pushing some young child singer this year.

Why this year? They may be pushing them but I doubt they'll win.

On a different note, who do you think is actually the best kid singer to have been on the show? For me, it's definitely a toss-up between Shaheen and Ronan as they were among my favorites during the show.

I really want a variety act to win this year (like last year) not a singer or dance troupe, nor a dog! Like others a comedian, as thats one forte that BGT has struggled with finding, and I definitely thinks there's a gap in the market for stand up comedian. Or something completely out of the box a magician? Again that's a talent BGT has struggled in terms of finding a winner in, I remember the two from last year but magicians on bgt find it hard to get a fan base.

We've had some good impressionists/comedians but none that are exceptional and actually have had a chance of winning.

Very true, but I read an article somewhere I think on digital spy, and Stephen Mulhurne said he wants a comedian to win so I'm hoping he's said that because there was an amazing comedian who auditioned!
Also read that there's some divers who are set themselves on fire- maybe they could win?

There's an outside chance a magician could win it, if they have some outstanding tricks, but I can't ever see a comedian getting close to winning it...

I think the stigma of being 'discovered' on BGT (rather than paying your dues on the circuit) would discourage most decent upcoming comedians from appearing - and the restrictions on content would be a problem (A Frankie Boyle type performer wouldn't get anywhere near the live shows!)

So you're likely to end up with a fairly safe act, probably padded with mediocre impressions (including Cowell and other panellists)...

I wouldn't mind a singer if it's a full on rock band.
Rock doesn't get a look in on shows like X-Factor and less so a whole band.

But in all reality I'm thinking some other type of singer is going to win. What with BGT competing with The Voice in the time slot. The Producers might push harder for a music act this year anyway.

We had a magician act last year who weren't even from here! Brynolf and Ljung I believe they were - they obviously didn't get very far despite being very good so I don't know how it will fare for other magicians.

Comedians may be a bit iffy, everyone has their own sense of humour, and comedians could polarise viewers, some could absolutely loathe them, whilst others love them. I'd like to see a really interesting magic act, not cheesy Butlin's quick changing, sawing the lady in half type, but more like illusions, things that make you scratch your head and turn to the person next to you and say "How on Earth did they do that?"

More than likely we'll get a singer or dance group though.

I would love to see a comedian or vent act win although I think most of the ppl who vote tend to go for the dancers or singers. I am old enough to remember Opportunity Knocks through the 70s and 80s and a lot of the acts were true variety with many comedians that are still going today

If the UK X-Factor does what the US have done and dropped the age to 13 then that should stop some of the younger singers applying for BGT. The drop worked for the US version as they would never have found Carly Rose Sonnenclar

i heard they are going to have semi-pro acts on this year. Club acts, etc. I notice a 14 year old comedian with cerebal palsy is on. Seen him on tv before. Very funny. He should be in the final
