Hmm surprised they didn't offer you for the same price the IPhone 5 on EE though you would only get 3GB then but you would be 4G then when I went in to phones for u it was like EE was only network they did. It really depends do you want to be on a direct carrier or do you not mind being on a secondary carrier. You could try contacting Tesco but not sure they would do a good deal or not never been with them or know anyone who has actually. Surprised they willing buy rest of contract out though.

What are the faults on the blackberry? Can help from crackberry forums not help to resolve?

If resolved, or not serious, then the mobile phone recyclers would pay 130 for it. Then, pay ff the contract yourself if you wanted and be able to get a much better monthly fee than 46.

The problems are the screen freezing and then the screen jumping across like your swiping the page !
maybe I should open it up see if its a connection thing.

Do you get good 3G on O2 where she wants to use it?
With an iPhone 5, Orange, TM, EE or Three are your best options for data. Unless of course you live in a good O2 3G area.
EDIT: Tesco runs over the O2 network by the way (in case you didn't know).

If you care about 4G the only options are EE and Three for the phone. Baring in mind Three won't give 4G straight away. A friend of mine had a similar problem with her blackberry and it cost more to fix nearly then it was a new contract but would try see how much it would cost to fix first.
