Didn't find TARDIS that much of a big deal. Goes into space for the first time and doesn't even question if she can breathe or not. Goes around the 'space market' and is all casual with Star Wars like aliens. Meets a little girl who is considered a 'queen' and of course provides her earthly advice. Somehow can drive a space moped like she's done it all her life. Has an IQ of 1k + where she worked out to beat the God with a leaf. Something The Doctor couldn't even work out. She practically has godlike traits already where she seems better than The Doctor. What the hell?!

Also, she comes across as really smug and is already self righteous towards The Doctor which isn't cool. The worst one was threatening to leave because she doesn't want to be mistaken by someone else. The Doctor just showed you a whole new side of the universe and you're already bitching?

Amy Pond was sort of bad as well at the beginning (was toned down though) but I think Clara Oswald is already worse. I don't know what it is with Steven Moffat. The companions he creates are so over the top that it's hard for viewers to relate to them. People critcise RTD but at least he gave his companions human traits. Donna being the best by miles.

I thought Jenna played her two previous characters brilliantly. The current one? Not so much. I'm not so sure if it's the writing but she comes across really annoying with this character. I hope she isn't even going to be like this the whole series. :/

Atleast she's not dull and wooden like Amy Pond. Her and 11 are like coffee and cream, boy what a team.

Not to mention the fact that she casually asks the Doctor if he's an alien and isn't at all phased when he says yes, like she meets them all the time!
I realise that the Doctor Who public's knowledge of the existence of alien life forms is now a lot more than it was in the classic series, but even so....

Moffats companions are the worst ever. atleast Davies were like actual humans who came from normal families.

Clara and Jenna are really my problem with DW at the moment. I just can't take to the character at all (all three versions of her).

The smugness that I get from watching her does annoy me and the fact she never really seems fazed by anything - it's just so uncompanion-like. I don't like her at all - not relatable in anyway whatsoever.

Now I don't actually think the writing is at fault as I think another actress could make me like and empathise with Clara a lot better than Jenna is doing. There is just something so unlikeable about Jenna for me.

I see no chemistry with her and Matt - it's just more awkward and stilted between them. Karen worked so well with Matt pretty much from the go for me, the same goes for Arthur and for Alex. Jenna is just wrong for me.

To sum up, I don't Clara or Jenna....I think I've made that plain enough...

No I agree with that point we saw what happened to Martha when to 10 she was just there but not the one he really wanted.

She just didn't want to be there because she kinda reminded him of someone else and be just a "She'll do" if she was there she wanted to be there because he wanted her there

I was considering asking which iteration of the character we would have preferred to see travelling with The Doctor.

Oswin, had she been savable from the crashed Alaska, and not converted. Had The Doctor been able to rescue her and show her the stars?

Victorian Clara, having followed her curiosity to a magical box on a cloud in the sky. Having turned the traditional TARDIS entrance slightly on it's head. Had she not been pulled to the ground and flew away with The Doctor at his request?

Or, seemingly, the original. The real deal. The modern-day Clara. Asks the questions, but not always the ones we expect. Not afraid to interfere. Not afraid to make The Doctor wait. Not afraid to make The Doctor 'dance a little harder' in the words of Caroline Skinner.

I don't know, I'm finding Clara even worse in that regard. I'm kind of hoping that like Amy she'll get more bearable a few episodes in once all the obligatory new companion scenes are out the way.

I've really taken to Clara, and wasn't sure that I would initially. She's one of a kind, brimming over with personality and very relatable - and with an intriguing mystery about her. Someone I would be happy and comfortable with hanging out with in real life (and not just because she's gorgeous). Who has had many "ordinary" companions, and it's great that they're trying something a little different.

Isn't there an option for none of the above? Or the travelling with River of Liz 10 option?

10 still couldn't get over Rose while shoving it down Martha's throat. Didn't seem to care about pissing off Martha. She had good reason to be mad.

11 seems genuinely happy to have Clara around and was very subtle on what he said. He wasn't being vicious. She didn't have to bite his head off yet 11 still looked very sad when she did and apologised. It was uncalled for imo.

OP's like this annoy me. Are you that needy for every companion to be relatable?

I didn't relate to Rose and Donna and it didn't stop me from caring about them as characters one jot.

Just because you don't find Clara realistic, doesn't mean she isn't realistic either.

I think Clara is believable - the wariness she has with the Doctor, her compassion for the Maitlands and Merry in these last two episodes alone. Her wonder of actually being on another world.

I agree that 11 seems happy but just say you had spent the day with someone even had a great day the best day of your life then when you got home the person implied they only picked you as you reminded them of someone else wouldn't you feel a little hurt and think they didn't really want you but they would rather have the other person.

Ok she doesn't know the other person is "her" but I can still see her point and he did give impression she was only there because the other person wasn't

Not only that but she'd suddenly recalled that he was spying on her at her mother's funeral - understandably made her a bit wary! I'm glad the Doctor looked uncomfortable when she brought that up because whilst I totally understand why he was checking out her past in this case, he knows it's very borderline as to how acceptable it is.

when looking at the clip of Clara and her dad, I've been trying to work out how did she see The Doctor as it showed The Doctor was very far back from both of them.

I must already be there then! It gets rather lonely here....especially in the Liz 10 sector of Faraway Land!

I have no problems if people like her. I'm just using your flawed logic.

- Clara's not the first companion to not question the breathing thing. Martha didn't either during Gridlock.
- What was Clara supposed to do in the market? Freak out and start crying. She's been made aware of alien life and she did seem bewildered/curious when she was at the market place.
- You mean that part where she showed a frightened child some basic kindness and tried to give her helpful advice. What a bitch for doing something so human.
- She saw the Doctor driving a moped and gave it a go. Seriously, a flimsy criticism here.
- She worked out something after learning more about the creature from the Doctor as the episode progressed. That's not huge IQ, that's common sense really.
- Actually she doesn't have any godlike abilities. Something's amiss with her in the sense that she's appearing in different points of time but that doesn't make her godlike at all.

I've said it before - and I'll say it again!
It is time the Doctor got a 'proper' companion again! Just a simple female (or male) person to join him in his adventures. No weird stories as to why they are there nor any weird storylines about their past! GET ON WITH THE F*****G stories for gods sake!!
Bring back the likes of Tegan, Sarah Jane, Jo Grant!! Etc!!

Because they're the second lead character and television writing has evolved?

Maybe the companions don't need to have a mystery but they need to do more than look pretty and scream on cue when a monster comes onscreen too.

Because they need an arc to keep viewers tuning in. This isn't the 1960s where the concepts of aliens and time travel are fascinating or clever.
