Bichon Frise, 3rd eyelid. Operation or Not?

Hi folks,

I have a gorgeous, cute, delightful little Bichon Frise. Just recently he came in from the garden looking like a cat had scratched him or something, I took him to the vets and they told me that it wasn't a cat scratch after all, it was his third eyelid that had popped out : I didn't even realise dogs had a third eyelid until then
The vet told me its up to me whether he has the operation or not to correct it because unless it begins causing problems such as eye infections it isn't absolutely necessary but obviously if it was corrected we wouldn't be risking him getting eye infections.
I am undecided what to do, it really does look awful and people always comment about it. I will say it doesn't seem to bother my little faithful friend.
I would be grateful on your input here to help me decide what to do.

Thanks in advance, I look forward to your responses.

I'd get it done.

Well our Mollie had a small growth on her eye lid we were told it was not causing any problem so left it for 4 years. She was getting older anyway so changes we saw we put down to that. Then she started rubbing it so we asked the vet to remove it (we had changed vet at that point). He did and I have never seen such a change in a dog, it was like the years peeled away from her when it was removed.

She had been acting older but she was only doing because it was bothering her !

Don't hesitate get this sorted would be my advice but you have to do what you think is right of course and every dog is different.
