Eighth Doctor

Am getting sick of all these negative threads. If you don't like it, stop wasting your life moaning and watch something else FFS - the show has been MUCH worse at times. Dig out those David Tennant DVDs and watch them instead if you think that era was better. Face it, the show has moved on, like it always has and always will.

Doctor Who is as good, if not better than it has ever been and Clara is really growing on me. Already she's a candidate for my favourite new series companion. There's been two episodes with the present-day Clara so far and she's been absolutely brilliant in them. A fresh take on the companion role that I for one am more than happy with.

Let's have some positivity around here, folks!

I absolutely adore Clara and I think Jenna's an incredibly talented actress. I can't wait for another series and a half of her at least.

Her debut in Asylum of the Daleks was one of my favourite guest performances in any new series episode.

I think Clara may very well be my favourite Nu-Who companion yet even if you include the classic series she may be in the top 3-4.

I really like Clara, but she's no Donna or River.

She is wonderful.

Although so far I prefer her earlier Victorian incarnation! - It would have been interesting to have a victorian companion aboard the TARDIS again.

I feel your pain Eighth Doctor. I understand that difference of opinion and taste is a beautiful and interesting thing which makes forums work as otherwise there would be no debate and discussion.

But I have to admit I am slightly bemused...no, I am very very bloody bemused...by the level of hatred and dislike for the show on here at the moment. It is almost beyond simple dislike into actual anti-Doctor Who obsession. We have had numerous 'worst episode ever' comments, calls for the heads of Moffat/Smith/Jenna Louise, calls for a new production team and even someone saying they hate Moffat so much the thought of the fiftieth is giving them panic attacks.

It is utterly insane and I am pretty tempted to stop posting-not that I expect anyone would care but there was a point last night where reading this forum was actually spoiling my enjoyment of the show.

QFT. It's all well and good not liking the show, but there comes a point where simply "stating your opinion" becomes "shoving the hate down people's throats without any factual evidence".

I tell you, I'm just really glad that Moffat (and RTD during his tenure) doesn't read the forums... I read what happened to Helen Raynor after reading the forum reviews of Daleks in Manhattan, and given that it devastated her, I'm just glad they don't. The pressure of being a showrunner is most likely difficult enough without witnessing people calling you crap, insulting your writing, and accusing you of ruining the show every day. >_<

On topic, I love Clara. She is possibly going to be the best companion since Donna. And I bloody loved Donna.

Clara is totally adorable and the partnership between Matt and Jenna is going to be a good one. Watched the latest episode three times now: Matt's monologues are divine

It annoys me. I'm a realist and I know not everything is perfect but some of the whinging from some people over every little thing (the biscuit recently being taken with the morons who tried to see sinister undertones in the prequel for The Bells Of Saint John) is absolutely depressing and falls into the complaining for the sake of it category.

As for Clara - I bloody love her. She's fantastically written, has an interesting mystery, is not afraid to stand up to the Doctor and is played by a wonderful actress in Jenna-Louise Coleman.

Four episodes (and three versions) in with Clara and I honestly think she deserves to go down as one of the best companions ever.

I like her. I don't see the need or benefit in comparing her to previous companions. In fact the notion of doing so didnt occur to me until now.

I absolutely adore Clara so far. I absolutely loved her as Oswin and she won me over straight away as Victorian Clara. This version has a lot more heart to her and the emotion showed in RoA was brilliant. She feels like a genuine companion and I love the friction they have together. Hopefully she'll be the first companion since Rose to outlast her Doctor (in the sense that she'll be around after Matt goes rather than outlasting his entire reign, that would be impressive).

She's warming to much more than Amy did.

I know it's very easy to say now since she's got the role, but I had a premonition of Jenna-Louise Coleman being the heroine in the Tardis back in her Emmerdale days. I thought then she'd fit right in!

Reasons I like Clara Oswald, Let me count the ways:

She fills that Pond-shaped hole left in the Tardis by the departures of Amy & Rory;
She talks nearly as fast as Matt's madcap Eleventh Doctor;
I love how Moffat's companions have such an interesting and intriguing backstory to draw them into the Doctor's world from River's back-to-front timeline and Amy's crack in her bedroom wall and Clara's mystery (instead of ordinary modern-day Cockney lass);
Jenna makes you realize how tall Karen Gillan is!
Like the fact they changed the interior of the Tardis to mark the separation of the Pond-era from the Clara-era;
Calling the Tardis "Snog Box"
Bringing a cup of tea with her on her first trip in the Tardis;
Her first appearance helped the Daleks forget ALL about the Doctor & the second save the world from an army of carnivorous Snowmen from her deathbed;
Almost a seamless link from Amy encouraging Eleven to meet another friend...
...Far more preferable from our hero brooding on his own over the loss of Clara's predecessors! She can definitely stay.

Clara has got me back to watch the show. Stopped after Tennant left and didn't watch the following series cause I hated Amy and her accent. Clara is one of woman and an improvement IMO from Pond.

Well it's a good thing Tennant didn't speak with his real accent then.

I love Clara, I love the mystery around her and think Jenna is a really talented actress who can give Matt Smith a run for his money. She is just behind Donna/Catherine Tate in my favourite Nu Who companion/actress list.

She's definitely much more adventure-focused than Amy was. Or her predecessors, for that matter.

All the companions so far have been lured in by the excitement and glamour promised by the Doctor of flying through time and space, being an intergalactic tourist. Even if their first experience with the Doctor is a terrible, life-or-death disaster situation, they seem surprised when it happens again. And again.

Clara seems to want to save people - she seems to get that this is what the Doctor does, and she wants to be a part of his team. It's a tiny change in attitude, but noticeable.

I really like Clara, she is intriguing and mysterious. I wonder if the current Clara will ever get to meet any of the other versions of her, perhaps a version we haven't seen yet.

I love Clara. I don't know why but I seem to prefer Oswin and Victorian Clara. There's nothing wrong with this Clara, I think it's the length of the episodes. They have to fit so much into an episode and it seems like there is no time for anything else. In Asylum she didn't have to do much, her words were a big part of the episode and that's when I fell in love with the character. The Snowmen was an hour long and there was enough room for action and really heartfelt scenes. She's been wonderful in the past two episodes, I just feel like she hasn't had a chance to make me like her as much as I did in Asylum and Snowmen. I'd like a slower, really clever episode like Amy's choice. I sort of fell like the last two episodes have not done her justice, but that's just me obviously.

And about the whole unrealistic thing. She was completely phased by the Tardis and the plane so considering everything she had just seen, finding out he was an alien wasn't that big of a deal.

I know what you mean Saladfingers. I for one would be sad if you stopped posting because there are not many voices of sanity round these parts at the moment. I can thoroughly recommend the "My opinion is very important, and deserves its own thread" thread for letting off steam. I go there to relax in between various battles on the rest of the forum

As for Clara. I too think she's great and I feel quite sorry for Jenna-Louise-Coleman because she's barely started but already people are gunning for her.
