Clara's Mum died on the day of the Auton attack in Rose

The dates add up that this is the date of the Auton attack. Rose went "missing" on 6th March 2005 from the posters that Jackie put up.

Very well spotted. I looked at the dates on the headstone but didn't get that one!

I'm waiting for fanfics depicting Clara seeing her mother gunned down by an Auton.

Been a while since I watched Rose but did she see her Mum after the Auton attack or just talk to her on the phone?

If the latter then the Auton attack must also have been on the 6th of March and therefore Ellie Oswald died the day before the Auton attack.

So was probably not killed by an Auton.

Or she was shot by an Auton and died the next day?

Incidentally I watched Rose yesterday and can't remember the answer to your question.

Did the Auton attack even take place, what with the cracks and the reboot and everything?

Is she living backwards? Gets shot on the 6th of March and dies on the 5th?

I think SM went on record as saying with the reboot of the universe, everything still had happened as we had seen previously, except when he needed to change something for a future storyline

So much meta, so little time

An actress called Carmen also played Clara in The Celestial Toymaker.

Yes, that sounds like Moffat.

So which applies in this case, then?

Although, the Autons were probably hanging around on Earth for a bit before the Doctor showed up in the shop. And there was that big explosion and a rogue mannequin hand wandering around - so it's plausible that the two events could be linked. Perhaps Clara's Mum worked in the shop and was cashing up at the time - it had only just closed. Or maybe she was walking past at the wrong moment, or worked next door?

I was careful not to suggest she was killed by an Auton in this thread although I do think it would be a cool link. The Auton attack happened as Jackie told Rose on the phone that she was going to do some "late night shopping". The 6th March 2005 was a Sunday, so the attack happened the night before and Rose leaving Mickey happened after midnight.

Would this link into the Great Intelligence?

Personally I think Steven Moffat is just giving call outs to important dates and times in the shows history. He probably always has done and we've just noticed.

Funnily enough, I though it was strange that in the post-birth scene, Clara's mum just walked into the room where her Dad was holding her. Perhaps Clara's mum died in childbirth and was replaced by a Nestene duplicate, who 'died' again when the Nestene Consciousness was killed in 'Rose'?

In that case, perhaps Clara is just a Nestene duplicate herself, with her skills and memories retained in the Consciousness and transferred into her new incarnation?

On reflection maybe not this. He's given call outs to the dates things were aired so maybe there is a link to the Rose episode.
