The TARDIS on Foyle's War ... well, sort of!

On yesterday evening's episode of 1950's period crime drama "Foyle's War" about half way through, a Police Box was
seen in the background. On closer inspection, this looked very much like they had used the 2005-2010 TARDIS prop.
The was one slight difference though ... the "FREE FOR USE OF PUBLIC" notice was white text on black.

Take a look at this 1280x720 screengrab from the episode ... I've increased the colour balance for additional clarity.

I thought it was an odd choice from the director that the box appeared quite obviously and distinctly, appearing immediately behind the characters during a dialogue scene and not just a distant background shot.....I know this was their proper time and place but surely at this point 99% of the audience would have been taken out of the drama and instead of listening to the dialogue would be thinking "Ooh, look, it's the TARDIS".

I noticed that too - the idea of a Dr Who/Foyle's War linked episode would be brilliant.

If the Foyle's War thread on DS is anything to go by some people would have been complaining

"That's the wrong design for police boxes at that time, it's painted the wrong shade of blue, the writing on the door is the wrong font.. the light at the top is the wrong shape"

Richard Dillane who played the Minister last night was the Captain of the Teselecta in Season 6

Ellie Haddington (Hilda Pierce) was Professor Docherty in Last Of The Time Lords

Rupert Vansittart played General Stewart in Aliens Of London/World War III

A couple of us commented about it on the Foyle's War thread.

It did give me a bit of a jolt when I saw it.

And thanks, Verence - I knew the Minister who resigned had been in DW but I couldn't place him - Teselecta Captain, of course.

The Doors open as well, did the camera just miss the Doctor entering or leaving?

My wife spotted that and she's not a Dr Who fan. Nice to see though.

Often in productions that have a prominent DW guest star you can get visual or cryptic teases of the show. Look at all the Tardis blue and white panelling following DT and Arthur around in Broadchurch at the moment.

Don't thank me

Thank a mix of IMDB.com and the Tardis Data Core
