Don't worry, the ratings are increasing with timeshift all the time. In fact, though the overnights were only 5.5million last week, they are already up to 6.48 million with timeshift for sunday

Dr Who was the third most watched TV programme on Saturday, and that's just going by the overnight ratings.

It was only beaten by Ant & Dec and the Voice, neither of which can be described as quality television.

I think the Dr Who rating figures are just fine.

Overnights are always going to be a bit down at this time of years as the nights start to lengthen.

Presumably the Sun are coming out with nonsense like "terrible viewing figures.... BBC bosses worried.... Could it be the end of the road for the show? "

a quick visit to BBC iPlayer shows it's the 2nd most popular show on there right now..

That's good enough for me

In the first half of series 7, the second episode Dinosaurs on a Spaceship had overnights of 5.5m, and a final of 7.57m, whilst The Power of Three overnight 5.49m, final 7.67m. In series 6, the second episode Day of the Moon got 5.4m/7.3m. In fact, the first two episodes of series 6, the first two of 7a and the first two of 7b are pretty similar in overnights, and the finals were similar too in 6 and 7a. I don’t think there’s anything to worry about.

The ratings are nothing to worry about. The only time to worry is when episodes struggle to get 'a final' rating of about 4.5/5m.

And that looks like it 'aint going to happen anytime soon!

The Sun seems to manage to forget that both BBC iPlayer and BBC Three exist. No surpise there.

Well, they have run that exact story at least twice a year for the last seven years or so and Doctor Who hasn't been cancelled yet, so... uh, yeah.

Bring on the Doommongers! Doom! DOOM!

We haven't had a good message of impending DOOM! For at least, oh, twenty minutes or so.

Regardless of the doom-mongering, the show could easily attract 7 million, but it won't due to Moffat's lunacy putting people off. I know people who don't care if they catch Who or not anymore. He's failing in making sure the show connects with the larger audience by being genuinely entertaining rather than relying on fans continuing to watch, hoping it gets better.

thats why this current series is averaging over 8 million at the moment presumably?

And why all the series he has overseen the show continued to average between the same 7.5 million to 8 million range it always has since it's 2005 return

Believing something the Sun says does not reflect well on one's intelligence.

'Doctor Who Ratings Remarkably Consistent (in context)!' presumably won't help them sell as many papers.

Yeah, right on, wool! Uh, except, wait... average final ratings for all series since 2005:

7.95 million - Series 1 average
7.71 million - Series 2 average
7.55 million - Series 3 average
8.05 million - Series 4 average
7.73 million - Series 5 average
7.52 million - Series 6 average
8.04 million - Series 7 average after 6 episodes.

I'm sorry, you were saying? Oh and those figures don't (AFAIK) include iPlayer so you can add an extra 0.5 to 1 million on everything from Series 5 onwards and the bump in Series 4 is almost entirely down to ridiculous viewing figures thanks to the fake regeneration scene. Also series 7 will almost certainly drop as episodes without big events take the average down a bit but it's still more than likely to fall in that 7.5 to 8 million range.

So one time for the particularly troll-y: Doctor Who has been absolutely consistent in its performance across all 7 series to date bringing in 7.5 to 8 million viewers on average per regular series episode. THE AI figure remains very high as well. The only thing that's changed is audience habits are increasingly seeing the show time shifted rather than watched live but that applies to almost all television shows these days. If you don't like Moffat's time as show runner, fair enough. You may even know people who agree with you but this is NOT a view reflected in the viewing figures so kindly don't treat it as such. Ta

The Sun neglected to mention one thing. The other Sun was to blame for the lower ratings, it was nice weather that day.

Final ratings for The Bells of Saint John are 8.44 million viewers.

It was the second highest rated show on BBC One for the week, only being beaten by one episode of EastEnders, and beating The Voice by nearly 1 million viewers.

Not too shabby at all in my opinion.

Perhaps the Sun took objection to the Sun* being the big baddie in that episode? Perhaps the whole episode was a parody of the evils of Rupert Murdoch's empire and no one realised?

*OK I know it wasn't a sun really, it was a big gas giant, but it looked like a sun.

If you're really worried about ratings look out for next week's viewing figures. If there were many who were seriously disappointed by TRoA, the next episode will surely take the hit.

On the other hand there is no such thing as bad publicity

I'm also seeing a lot more trailers for Cold War than I did for The Rings of Akhaten.

Every series (or part series) loses viewers after the premiere episode, doesn't it?

Yes.

"Everything happening like normal. Loads of People Like Doctor Who. Smashing."

That's the headline of the Nebosphere Gazette today. Sales are pitiful. Tomorrow we're going with

Sylvester McCoy: "I Satirised Thatcher For Money" Shame

to boost things.

Is it wrong that I wish you did have a website with that spoof paper on it?
