Filming today's at the Tower of London so she's probably already filming.

I wasn't keen on her, didn't really make an impression on me but it's nice to have a physical representative for the Brig in the special.

WRONG - she wasn't a companion at all!

UNIT is in the 50th, as are the Zygons - - the past is being well represented!

Still a character from new who just like the rest of the cast for it

You know the full cast do you? Well done, I'd love to hear the full cast list from you. And of COURSE Kate is in the special, she's the head of UNIT. Are you saying you don't want UNIT in the special? Cos you're sending out mixed messages if you are.

No I love unit it's just the fact all the people "returning" so far are from new who. Is if so hard for them to say someone like Jo Grant is coming back

If UNIT is coming back, Kate Stewart has to as head of it, plus she represents the past far more than she represents nu-who, she's the Brig's daughter, and her reformation of UNIT as being scientifically rather than militarily lead came from the Doctor's time with UNIT and the influence he had on her father

As for other old characters, they are definitely keeping some surprises from us, they have teased more familiar faces are returning, but as the special is still 7 months away they don't want to reveal everything at once!

If UNIT are returning for the 50th Anniversary Special I have my fingers crossed that Benton and Yates might appear

We're on the road to a regular influx of news, so excited

Quote:
“We’re delighted to reveal that Jemma Redgrave will be returning to Doctor Who for the show’s fiftieth anniversary special. She previously appeared in 2012’s The Power of Three playing Kate Stewart, daughter of the legendary Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart.

Jemma is part of a brilliant cast that is already known to include Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman who are joined by the returning David Tennant and Billie Piper plus screen legend John Hurt and Joanna Page. Filming is underway on the special which will be a 3D spectacular shown later this year.

You can find out more about Kate Stewart or read about the return of an old enemy for the 50th special… More new about the adventure very soon!”

It might be their sons or daughters! Although having said that...Benton and Yates were pretty much in the same line as Brokeback Mountain! Benton never mentioned a girlfriend at all! Only a younger sister!

She was technically introduced before New Who. And anyway, even if The Power of Three was her first appearance (which it wasn't), she'd still have the link to one of the more iconic classic companions.

Captain Jane Benton and Sgt Michaela Yates

Benton flirted with Jo and Sarah Jane on occasion

Should have brought back her original actress

Great news, but already worrying about a continuity error. I'm fairly sure the Power of Three took place a lot later than 2013, would Kate remember meeting the Doctor if the 50th is set in 2013?

Actually I'm pleased with this and ad the Brigadier's daughter she is a link to the past, more so than the Zygons.

Trust me as someone who followed The Dark Knight Rises quite a bit I got to learn the phrase "More news coming soon" shouldn't be taken so literally

Speaking of the Brig, within the timeline of the series is he already dead or will that be happening in the future as I can't remember Kate and 11 talking about his death in The Power of Three??

That UNIT has some representation in the 50th Anniversary episode is a good thing. Although if this means that entire episode takes place on modern day Earth then it's not such a good thing. In my opinion, of course.

They talked about him in the 'past' sense without directly referring to his death I believe.

He's definitely dead now, as was established in TWORS which took place in 2011, among all of time.

I'm getting annoyed now with all the criticism of current characters appearing in the 50th. We have to have people who are current and can make te story work, just having classic characters for te sake if it would detract from the story and make a mockery of it. If past characters can complement the story great, if not dont, and unfortunately due to age etc, a lot of them aren't feasible. Having Kate Stewart is fine by me, it's a nod to the past as she is the brigadiers daughter and she is the current head of UNIT (I think) ..

Kate is a half human, half Zygon!
