lol. As soon as I read the news I thought to myself that there will be people on the forums unhappy that it's another NuWho person. Post number 2 as well! Good work

How is she new? Even tho the adult actress is new, she represents her father, who sadly has passed, my goodness do you want them to dig him up and have him in the show anyways because she isn't good enough? Man some of you all are so picky.

Sure she is his daughter just like Luke is Sarah janes son, should he be returning for the 50th to represent her?

Agreed and Luke too would be a link to the classic series, these characters don't actually need to be from the classic series to be a link to it. As far as arguably the 2 biggest companions of the classic series goes this would be the best we can hope for.

Somehow I think if Elisabeth Sladen hadn't have died and was now announced some people would still say she was now more Nu-who and not a good enough link.

This is in reference to a few posts on the first page, not to mention a good number of threads that have cropped up recently...

So many fans are proving so difficult to please, and I say that as someone with noted quarrels with Series 7 so far!

I am sure that if they could have done, they would have reunited The Doctor and The Brigadier for this occasion. However, short of digging a respected man from his grave and putting him on strings, this is physically impossible. Moffat has managed to do the next best thing, and honoured The Brigadier in memory, with a fictional daughter. I'll admit I wasn't too keen on her character in The Power of Three (or the episode as a whole to be honest) but I'm grateful for the nod to the history the show has.

We also have Zygons in some capacity or other, which were chosen and designed specifically for use in the 50th Aniversary, rather than digging out an old Hath costume or something from The Rings of Akhaten which would have been a lot easier and cheaper.

We have a previous Doctor confirmed already. He's far from my favourite (heck, I'd have actually preferred a non-multi-Doctor story myself) but they've managed to get him back. When three of the previous Doctor's are dead it does make the whole reunion concept kind of sloppy-sounding. Without Eccleston, even more so. I have no doubt that all eleven Doctor's will be remembered in the story, but there are so many fans who consider it "unforgivable" to not include at least all the living Doctor's. Yes, it's a nice idea - but a bunch of now old men in costume running around for a single story does not a recommissioned jewel-in-the-beeb-crown series make.

I appreciate people's opinions, and enjoy hearing the amazing ideas people would love to see brought to the screen. I myself have been disappointed by about half of the episodes we've seen in the past twelve months and think the show is capable of better. But the fandom has become so unenjoyable and downright intimidating this year. I think a lot of fans, and of course I don't speak for everyone, just expect too much of the show and have unrealistic expectations for it

There, I'm done *breathes*

-

On that note, I myself will be interested to see Kate come back. And having Luke involved would be a brilliant way to similarly remember Sarah Jane... I do wonder if they'll make a reference to her in the story

As low a viewership as the show is getting right now (and for good reason, with Moffat's erratic nonsense style), 90% of those viewers couldn't give a toss about anything pre-2005, and I'd say only half of those remember much pre-Eleven!

They really need to strive for NEW viewers!!!

What low viewership is that exactly? The 7-8 million it's always had?!

Disagree 100% with both you and probably 90% of the 90%.

The November episode is a one-off to celebrate 50 years of Doctor Who. It should be about those 50 years, not just the last 8 years, otherwise why have a 50th anniversary episode at all? Why not just wait two years and have a 10th Aniversary of New Who episode?

Relax everyone. I have it on good authority that both Matthew Waterhouse and Bonnie Langford have been asked to reprise their roles as Adric and Mel respectively so everything is just fine

given her connection to both the Classic series and new series, Sarah Jane would be a clear choice for a return to celebrate 50 years. Its sad that, this can not happen

On an aside issue, Katy Manning did return as Jo Grant in the final season of the Sarah Jane Adventures, with Matt Smith making an appearance.

You know I'm such a nerd, this is the FIRST thing I thought of when I read the news.

The ratings will soar with those additions!

Good news thought she would be back. I would like to take this oppurtunity to vote for Captain Jack Harkness to be the next charcter to come back. If 11 needs all his freinds Jack should definately be somewhere on the list. Getting excited for Mays finale which will lead into the 50th anniversary.

If past characters can complement the story great, if not dont, and unfortunately due to age etc, a lot of them aren't feasible. As nobody knows what the story's going to be, we actually only 'have to have' the current Doctor and, presumably, Clara. The whole thing could be set in the past as far as we know, and could incorporate some of the older stars who we havn't seen for decades. That might upset the modern fans but it is supposed to be celebrating 50 years. Of course it may turn out we don't get anyone else, especially if it's only an hour long, but it would be disappointing if it's heavily slanted towards the last few years as then it would just be another episode.
Hopefully that won't happen

Loved her, so I'm pretty pleased she's returning for the 50th and it's nice way of representing both UNIT and the Brigadier, though a scene with Kate/Jo/Benton/Yates and a Liz/Brig/Sarah Jane mention would be nice.

Probably referring to the 5.5 million mentioned in Sun which only counted the overnight ratings.

Don't know if it's been mentioned before but maybe two Zygons will take the form of 10 and Rose thus explaining David and Billie's appearance in the 50th Anniversary show

It's a miracle:

eta: pleased Kate is back to represent her beloved father and also confirming UNIT will be involved in the 50th as well.

Please, please no!

Enough with characters from the last 8 years in an episode celebrating the last 50 years.

I would like three companions from Classic Who:-

Ian, Jamie, Polly or Zoe representing Sixties Who.

Jo, Leela or Romana II representing Seventies Who.

Nyssa, Tegan, Turlough, Peri or Ace representing Eighties Who.
