Hi,
I've been trying to cook myself more (not actually cook 'myself' but cook food myself lol) and have come accross a few recipes saying 'use a large frying pan or preferably a skillet"

I thought a skillet WAS a frying pan? Is there something different about a skillet? If so, what?

It may not be the official difference but I think of a skillet as cast iron

I think skillets have the kind of handle that can go in the oven.

Skillet and frying pan are much the same although generally heavy frying pans are called skillets (in the UK and the USA).

I always thought of a skillet as being a flat circular cast iron baking plate with no sides, I think the Americans refer to a frying pan as a skillet.
