It is a shame Sky UK can't match up to the service offered by the likes of Sky Germany. I hear they have a fantastic live HD Sky Go streaming service full of live football and movies, yet the Sky Go application on my Xbox (not tried Now TV yet due to the ridiculous price - even during the trial) struggles to maintain a low quality picture despite being connected to a constant and stable 12Mbps ADSL pipe.

Their refusal to listen to their customers wishes and even attempt to accommodate them is frustrating. Especially when they come out with crap like "It isn't possible to..." or "We currently have no plans to..." even though the same company only a few hundred miles away is doing exactly what British customers are asking for!

This old article explains some of it -

"But we'll continue to develop. This is the start, but if the technology move on and [if] the rights holders get comfortable and want to move into HD then we'll be there."

It's to do licensing rights issues, HD licensing rights issues, and the technical issues involved in Multicasting via Unicasting a VoD service, which Sky have never attempted before (and Sky are using Unicasting).

YouView boxes will shortly support live SD and HD IP channels which will be supported by a Multicast Content Connect delivery network much in the same way as Netflix are now able to offer 7Mbps Super HD and 3D content, as they too have invested in, and have paid for, an Open Connect network to display their content.

But I'm not aware Sky have made any such investment in Now TV.”
