Simon Cowell vows to change 'every aspect' of XFactor
Simon Cowell has vowed to change "every aspect" of his ITV show The X Factor after ratings fell for two years in a row, but has ruled out returning as a judge on this year's series. Quote:
The music and TV impresario said The X Factor would have a new judge – Tulisa Contostavlos is rumoured to be facing the axe – who would appeal to younger and older viewers. "The format is 10 years old and any format that has lasted that long ... you have to change the format because the inevitable result is if you don't [the ratings] will go down," he told the new issue of Radio Times. "Every aspect of the show [will be changed] in some particular way. It will look like a slightly different show to one you have seen before," he said. "My job is to try and make the show better than it was two or three years ago." But his commitments to the US version of The X Factor in the US means he will not be returning to the show as a judge "for this year". "At some point I will definitely come back on it," he added. Cowell said the environment was "too competitive out there" for shows such as The X Factor, and asked how he felt about the impact the show could have on contestants' lives, he said: "It happens on every show you make. "There is a moment where you feel uncomfortable, but then you look at things with perspective and the truth is – over the years – the show has benefited a lot of people's lives who wouldn't have had an opportunity." http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2013...l-the-x-factor Quote:
The star also hinted at the new X Factor judge, saying they appeal “to the middle-aged and to the young”.

Sadly this seems unlikely - ITV are apparently determined to stick with Barlow. Sharon seems like the person here. Even though she is older, her family is very well known among younger audiences and she of course did X Factor herself for years. |

I'm liking sound of the changes this year especially auditions, I didn't like the way it has been the last couple of years.

The show does need a tough talking judge IMO; if the rest of the panel consists of Nicole, Sharon and Louis as predicted the fourth judge will be required to 'ground' it and keep a sense of reason about the show. Gary has many faults but he comes across as having his head screwed on. |

Bootcamp- I'm not too sure what could change here. Maybe they'll go back to basics and have each judge work individually with their categories for bootcamp. Similar to the Australian version, where each judge has two "mentors" working with them. Judges' Houses- If the second auditions were to come into play I would suggest the axing of Judges Houses as it would then make the audition process far too long. Perhaps Bootcamp could be done abroad? Live Shows- The return of Simon Cowell via videolink most likely. I don't know what else they could introduce though... |

Judge's houses are important because that's where you get that intimate, if quite glamorous, setting with a bit of nail-biting drama.
Dumping the second audition is better as I can't see the point of it. |

Dumping the second audition is better as I can't see the point of it. If the rumours are true then bootcamp is pretty much being dropped this year anyway in favour of the arena auditions. They should stick two fingers up to The Voice and bring some kind of battle element into it. |
