Union J News: First Single Named, Release Date Given, First Reviews In
_elly001
09-04-2013
So Union J, who are signed to RCA, are the first of the 2012 alumni to release a single, and it's all looking pretty positive.

They announced on a webchat last night that the song will be called Carry You. It's due for release on 2nd June and is rumoured to be getting its radio release on 22nd April (there was another rumour that it was 22nd May but I'm pretty sure that's far too late.)

Popjustice, who can be notoriously difficult to please, have led with the reviews: they said in a news story last night that the song is 80% amazing (and in a later tweet that the other 20% was good.) They've reviewed the song in full today:

There's another short, positive review within this article:

A Capital FM DJ also tweeted this last night:

I've heard it and its amazingggggg #UnionJCarryYou the boys vocals are incredible

I know it's probably a little bit early to be creating posts on a single we haven't heard yet, but I doubt it will be too long before it either a) leaks or b) the radios get hold of it, so thought I'd do this now.

Feel free to add any news, as well as thoughts etc. Personally, I'm excited for this. I honestly really rate them as vocalists (Jaymi especially) and think they have great chemistry as a band.

A cross between One Direction and The Wanted. That should be interesting and I look forward to hearing it. I hope they do well

Not a boyband fan but they were actually quite decent on TXF.

I'm looking forward to hearing this. The good reviews have got me even more curious to hear what direction they're going in with the song.

No big surprise there then!!! Cant think it will be anything different than what a typical boyband sounds like. After all The Wanted & One Direction sound similar anyway.

Boybands pretty much are their own genre of music, though. They're never going to release anything hugely experimental or massively different from one another, in the same way a heavy metal band isn't ever going to bring out a pop record.

That doesn't mean the music needs to be poor or lazy, though. Back For Good by Take That transcended most people's view of stereotypical boyband music, as did Girlfriend by N Sync, as did I Want It That Way by The Backstreet Boys and as did (I'll grudgingly admit this even though I think the rest of their singles have been average) What Makes You Beautiful by 1D. Those are all really strong songs within the boyband genre.

Popjustice & James Barr... both notorious for saying everything is "AMAZING"

In other words, it's forgettable.

I can literally think of tons of things that PJ don't find amazing.

That is so true. I re-call them saying that about all of Cheryl's songs yet they turned out to be absolutely dire....

Things that are not part or don't fit in with the Capital Radio brigade. That would be about it. They still bang on about how great The Saturdays are... the reality is, most of their songs are truly tragic.

What is the 'Capital Radio' brigade? Because PJ have been vocal in their dislike of Ed Sheeran, who I'm guessing Capital Radio play a lot, and seem pretty much at the end of their tether with Emeli Sande as well. If you mean alternative music, yeah, sure - the clue is in the title. They're into pop music.

And they don't 'bang on' about The Saturdays at all. They barely even talked about their last single (which made number one, btw - so it's not as if The Saturdays are on a downward trajectory just yet.) They voted Higher as their PJ Song of the Year, but that was done at their Ten Quid music thing where they get guest speakers and audience participation - and Higher was a great song, regardless. I've never seen them going on excessively about The Saturdays. The only acts PJ properly stans for are Girls Aloud and Lady GaGa.

I wasn't a fan of them on XF, but I'm actually interested to hear their single.

Here we go, there bound to do ok because they are heart throbs and the tween girls will back them in force. It doesnt even have to be that good to sell well, not that im expecting anything on a level with WMYB (its undeniably a top draw pop song that really got 1D noticed).

Come next spring they will be trying to break america and on the next x factor another group of young lads will crop up wanting a piece of the pie 1D have been tucking into aswell. And so the cycle will continue..... yawn.
