Easiest and cheapest way of improving remote control signal range
rewind
09-04-2013
I have an A/V rack which I have moved a fraction and as a result the sofa is now blocking the IR sensor on my Sony Amp. Is there a cheap way of improving/extending the reach of the IR sensor? I know you can buy those extenders but they are around £30 and is a bit overkill when it literally just needs to be improved by a few centimetres.

Thanks.

Stick a mirror where you can bounce the IR off.

Move the AV rack back.

As Nigel says......

I believe there are such things as wireless (as in radio wave) remotes. These are used when the kit to be controlled is in a cupboard (well ventilated of course) or not in line of sight.

Ha! Thanks guys. I will try the mirror trick but if not, will try and move the sofa a bit!

Use an old flash photography trick and bounce the beam off the ceiling. It works.

That's what I thought, I just pointed my Sky remote at the wall behind my sofa, in the opposite direction to the sensor and it works perfectly.
