Any piece of AV kit anywhere in the peripheral vision when watching TV *has* to be black. Much less distracting.

I think it's daft making such a radical alteration of appearance, just because it's got a built-in wifi card.
What's wrong with just the letter added to the name? Anyone buying these will see that there are two models; one is more expensive, with a slightly different name and there'll be a WiFi logo slapped on the details/box, etc. I wouldn't buy this because it's white. |

I received one of these this morning. Ordered from the Humax site around 3pm and delivered here at 9am today. Nice work by Parcel Force. My initial thoughts:
My main concern is non-availability of BBC iPlayer, or anything needing the internet connection. An 'incorrect link' fault notice comes on instead. Humax tell me this is a known issue, affecting a very small number of users. They say a fix is being worked on. I pointed out as a BT Home Hub user, potentially a great many people may get this problem. Perhaps it is due to using my WiFi connection, rather than ethernet. Although the box seems happy, quoting 130 Mbps. My broadband connection is supposedly fast enough. Anyway, I'm currently minus the main USP for this box. I quite like the remote apart from one or two niggles. Although it is nice to have a little feedback of button presses, the accompanying noise is rather annoying. I spend a lot of time using the play and fast forward buttons for ad skipping. They should be larger and more prominent, as in a Sky + remote. At the moment I can't really judge the picture quality. The new box is upstairs for a few days, using an ancient 24" CRT TV via RGB Scart. Even so it did look a bit crisper than the Sky box. As has been hotly debated, there is a strange feature with the signal strength indicator. Yes, it does confirm that two dish cables are connected - but to sometimes have one tuner showing 'No Signal' is rather disconcerting Quite clearly, the software used is pretty much identical to that used in the HDR-1000S. It would explain the stupid on screen messages about the non existent WiFi dongle. These are frequent and rather annoying. Some new software please Humax. The EPG is quite tasty, although I'd like to always directly choose from my favourites. The mini tv (although nice to have) does zoom in and out in a rather jerky fashion. Finally, when unpacking the box be aware of a little sticker at the top back left. It is not part of the packaging but a security seal. Of course, some of us find a 1TB drive so inadequate... |

Why are you using the forward and backward buttons for adds when there is a skip button? Two presses of the skip button and you've skipped the adds and you're back watching your programme. Personally I think the Ethernet Homeplug solution is the better option.

My apologies, I should have referred to the skip buttons, which I do use for ads. Again, I would like them to be larger though.
With the box upstairs my Homeplugs don't work, due to differing ring mains. When it comes down to the living room I hope they might solve the internet connection problem. |

Evening, guys.
First time poster, with some future input, as I'm weighing up my options after (all but) deciding to completely leave Sky. I understand that this device (along with the 1000s) streams files from NAS, which is a great built in function for my needs. The main thing I am unsure of and I cannot seem to find an answer anywhere, is whether you can access web pages on this device to watch videos? There's a couple of websites I use to stream video from and use quite a lot. If this device has the function to access these sites and view video full screen, that'd just round this off lovely! I'm a bit doubtful, though! Many thanks in advance. Steve |

Based on what?
I would expect that once existing stocks are sold the later versions of the black ones have WiFi as well. |

Cheers Mark.
That's a shame. I thought there was an Opera SDK or something, that was within the Humax devices to potentially allow such a thing. Hopefully it's something that can be implemented in a future SW update. Any idea if this streams .ISO files from a NAS? |

No only the raw mpeg data (programme stream or transport stream containers). afaik no way to mount a disk image file. |

Black version yet?
Just looking at the Humax HDR 1010s and it's now December 2013 so I'm searching for the "Black" alternative? Have they released one yet?
Also can you record two programmes whilst watching a third recorded programme like on the Sky+ box? Thanks curlydog |

Also depending on which 2 channels are being recorded from you can even watch a third channel from a limited selection depending on transponder. |

I bought it because it has the wifi card & 1TB HDD.
I would have preferred black though, as everything else I have, is black! |

We got this on Christmas Eve and so far we have been happy with it. I would have preferred black but wanted the wifi included. It doesn't distract the eye but maybe that's because it's not really in the field of vision. It has done everything it says it does so far, including all the catch-up services working perfectly fine. A lot of people have complained in reviews elsewhere about the loud clicking of the remote but we haven't found this to be so. The central OK, left, right etc button is the only one that makes a noise (not loud) and the rest are silent. Once you have sorted the programme you want out there is no need to use the central button so I can only assume that it must only annoy people who are constantly flicking through and changing channel. Whereas I would probably find the person constantly changing channel much more annoying!
