Hi,
I have a Galaxy S2 on an O2 contract which I got from Tesco.

It has the CPW firmware on it, and I can't get it to find the jelly bean upgrade when using Kies.
Any help gratefully accepted

My other half is in the same situation, they haven't released the update yet for CPW, Orange, T-Mobile and unbranded, we've been checking Kies everyday, but still no joy!

Can't be long though now they've released it for O2, Network 3 and Vodafone.

Blimey, surprised you are still waiting.

I flashed mine with the Spanish update a couple of months ago, didn't need to root etc, but my phone was unlocked, so not sure if any good for you.I got the info from XDA forum.

It is a really nice update by the way, great phone, very happy with it for the next year or two.

This link might help from O2 forum...

I've just phoned Samsung & they cannot give me any date for an upgrade. I have a slightly different problem as I bought my phone & have a monthly sim only contract but still no date for Jelly Bean to be made available on Tesco mobile!

I unlocked my Galaxy S2 with a code that cost me a tenner from t'internet and took half an hour to arrive. T-Mobile quoted me twenty quid and three weeks turnaround.

I have used the Nordic Countries unbranded Jelly Bean firmware for mine and it also works perfectly with the added bonus of no bloatware beyond anything that Samsung punts at me.

There are plenty of instructions and videos on YouTube to help you through it, even it it sounds daunting at first. You will also not be invalidating any warranty you may have as you would be using official firmware.

I am in exactly the same boat. Have a Samsung Galaxy S2 from Tesco running ICS 4.04 and CPW firmware, and eagerly awaiting the Jelly Bean update. I would grab it the other way as suggested here but I don't really find ICS that offensive so I'm happy to wait. I do hear it is a genuinely worthwhile upgrade though, so I'm really looking forward to it.

As soon as anyone hears anything, post here and let us know!

My S2 is a XEU sim-free version and this week I finally got fed up waiting for Samsung and installed the Nordic JB update via Odin. 4.1.2 is a very nice upgrade, shame it is taking Samsung so long to roll out.

However I only use the Odin method as the S2 is now my spare phone, I bought a 16Gb Nexus 4 from Google last week.

Because it required a micro Sim I opted for a Virgin Mobile PAYG - checking my account earlier I was surprised to see VM had given me a 'reward' allowance of 95.36GB of data

After a massive wrestle with the really bloody poor Kies software, I managed to grab the Jelly Bean update for my Galaxy S2 with CPW firmware from Tesco. Finally!

Despite the fear and trepidation, the update went really well and so far no issues. But wow! What a difference! Really impressed with the new look and feel of the interface. It's a completely different phone.

Gonna spend the evening tinkering and playing. Nice!

I've hardly been able to put this thing down! Really massively impressed with what amounts to a complete makeover for the phone.

But it's not the visual upgrade that has impressed me the most, but the speed. I sort of expected this kind of in-place upgrade to slow the phone down, but that has not happened. At all. It's got more responsive and tactile, and is way quicker to navigate. There's no more bloody annoying pause as I try to enter my password on the lock screen. Menus and apps appear much quicker, it even boots quicker. But the big improvement on top of that is the gaming.

Games like Rayman and Vector, and even sometimes Angry Birds would run really slowly with ICS 4.04 on this phone. I was a bit upset by this when I first got the phone. I suppose It didn't matter as I was running these games on a Nexus 7 too so it didn't hurt too much, but for those times you don't have your tablet with you, you want your phone to be capable of handling your favourite titles. Especially as you know the spec can handle them, or should be able to. Since the upgrade, the gaming ability of the phone has improved massively. All these games run at the correct speed and there's no lag. Win!

I think all of this is pretty good for a phone that is considered a generation old now, and it's a big argument for getting Android updates out as quickly as possible to as many phones as possible. Because it can have a huge positive effect on the user experience.

Totally agree, it is a very decent update for my sim-free S2.

Shame Samsung took so long to drip feed it out because I got fed up waiting and bought a Nexus 4 so the S2 is just a spare phone now. If Samsung didn't feel the need to duplicate a lot of core Android functionality (the 'S' stuff) then we wouldn't have to wait so long.

I have got to agree with the previous comments. I upgraded mine last Thursday evening and to be honest, it feels like it is a new phone.

The speed of the handset in general is far better and the battery life has improved no end.

I am 15 months into a 24 month contract and it is as though I have been able to upgrade my handset early!! Really impressed.
