new v box. no coaxial output

I have just had to have my v box changed as it went wrong and my new one has no coaxial output. I used to be able to plug in the coaxial cable and stream tv all over the house. How can i achieve this without a coaxial output ?

Does it have an optical output that you can use instead?

I'm presuming he's referring to a UHF modulated output?, and not digital audio.

But I thought the V box had been replaced by TiVo now?.

If not he needs to get back in touch with VM and ask for an older V box with a modulator in.

V box is the non recording version - apart from sky+ I doubt any new boxes will have rf out.

You need to use a VCR if you have one using scart, or buy an RF modulator of ebay

Sorry, meant to say, it is a V+ box. They replace them when they go wrong, but dont market them any more. This new one just has no coaxial output (sorry, i have no idea about any techie speak, so dont know what RF is, i suspect it is the proper name for coaxial ouptut ?)

I has 2 scarts, one goes to my TV, one goes to my DVD recorder. The coaxial cable used to be plugged into a coaxial output oon the V+ box, which went to a booster box which used to then transmit the V+ box signal through the house. The new V+ box does not have the coaxial output socket, so I cannot use the coaxial cable any more.

I am wondering if there is any such device that I can connect the first scart to, that will in turn output another scart cable for me to connect to my TV, and a coaxial output that I can plug my coaxial cable into to stream the TV signal to the rest of the house. I have no idea what such a device would be called (if one exists) Can anyone help me please ?

Yes that would work except the OP has no spare scart sockets so he'd also need a scart doubler

If the TV the OP is connecting to has a HDMI connection on it then that could possibly free up one of the scart leads.

The modulator linked to above actually has another scart socket on the other side (not visible in photo), so can be used 'inline'.

Ring VM and tell them you want a V+ box with an RF modulator inside, as your old one had. It's rented, they should replace like with like.

Don't confuse them though by calling it a 'coaxial output'.

My original box was really old. They don't do them with the rf output any more.

Ordered one of them gadgets from amazon. Thanks for your help.

Now i just wish the new box would stop re-booting every 10 minutes. Awaiting another visit from the technicians......

For future reference I recommend either using the cable section of this forum or cable forum website to remove any confusion on Virgin Media related questions!

OK. So I bought an RF Modulator from Amazon. I plug Scart 1 from my v+box into the Scart input. I then plug the coaxial cable in to TV Out, the other end goes into my ariel input on the TV. I then try to tune the TV in to the RF Modulator, trying nearly all the channels (21-69). None of them work ! I can tune nothing into the TV. I tried another TV, still no luck. I then bought a universal modulator from Maplins, in case the modulator from Amazon was faulty. Still nothing.

Am I doing something obviously wrong ???

I would try another scart lead for starters.
If not the lead, it may be the actual scart socket on the V box playing up.

Incidentally, The 2 different modulators that you have now, I have both the exact same in use here. One for sat (the Maplin type), the other for cctv (the Amazon type). Both work fine.

I don't have a V box so am going from memory of some posting on here. I seem to remember something about the TV scart (on the v box) not working if HDMI is used and having to use the VCR SCART in this case.

This may be completely wrong but I do remember something like this.

Think you're onto something here...
Googling round a few other websites, it may may be that the V box can only output to HDMI or scart, not both.

eg, someone talking about using the box with a digisender:

"If i remember correctly...
- you can only output to HDMI or scart (not both)...

...There are 2 scart outputs on the V+ box, one for TV and the other for VCR etc..

Anyway, only 1 of them displays the menus. Ie. if you have the digisender plugged into the VCR scart output, you will not see the menus on the other telly."

Thanks for your responses. I am currently not using HDMI output, and have checked the SCART cable by connecting it directly to one of the TV's I am trying to receive the RF signal on,and the SCART cable and SCART 1 socket on the V+box is working fine.

I will try the SCART 2 input when i get home this evening and see if I can get this to work.

This might seem a stupid question but are you doing an analogue RF tune on the TV as opposed to a digital one?

I would try and "tune" the RF box not the other TV's

The TV I am tuning does not have digital, so, yes, it is analogue.

How do I tune the RF box ? I have been through all of the channels on the RF box to no avail. I tried this before I resorted to tuning the TV.

No not the V box ( the new ones have no RF output) the RF box that the scart plugs into must have a way to change channels it outputs to the same your old box

How many TV's do you feed from the RF feed?

Scart doesn't have any rf signals

If they have a coax output socket it's only conceivable purpose is provide output from an internal modulator.

You need a rf modulator to create a single UHF analogue signal on the UHF channel of your choice (21-69).

This is created from the composite video and analogue audio signals on the scart cable.
