Are you American?

As someone not living in the UK myself (or at least not yet), It does seem to be against the point of "Britain's" got talent to actually bring in acts from other countries to compete. If it's a foreigner who lives in Britain then fair enough as they are part of Britain.

I have no problem with acts travelling from other countries, but then call the show something else without the word "Britain" etc in the title, for example just simply "Talent" like us Swedes do.

Speciality variety acts in Britain, and indeed in any European country, have always been international. Certain countries have a tradition of producing certain types of act. I'm all for it. It's a public vote. I'd rather have an excellent foreign act get a break than some ghastly out of tune singing toddler from here with a sob story and a showbusiness mother from hell.

Might as well call the show 'Foreigners Got Talent' with the number of acts going through to live shows who arent even British.”

Totaly agree..but they come here in the hope of getting recognition in what they believe is the very best BGT version

Definately not. For all most of the foreign acts are fantastic, they are not British and the show is called 'Britains Got Talent' not Europe.
If they are going to let foreign acts enter then they should change the name of the show.

I don't mind, but it makes a nonsense of the show's title 'Britain's Got Talent'.

If they've come over from Europe or somewhere else in the world it's hardly as if Britain has got that talent is it?

The reason for the international acts on BGT is not because they have just jumped on the ferry and popped over to audition here on a whim but because they have usually been deliberately headhunted by the producers after starring on their countries' own version of the show.

It's an deliberate exchange of talent and works both ways. Anyone remember the big guy with the revolving bulging eyes from BGT a couple of years ago? He turned up in a trailer for the German version of the show last year that I saw on RTL. I'm sure he had no reason to suddenly pop over to Germany to audition - it was quite obviously set up.

Though, based on this example, we seem to be doing better from the exchange in terms of quality than the rest of Europe is.

this is such a pointless thread.

British petroleum do not sell you petrol from Britain.

British gas also sells electricity.

Selfridges do not even sell fridges.

For me personally if you enter Britains Got Talent you should be British because it doesn't make sense to me if someone from another country won unless of course they have British citizenship and reside here. Saying that I enjoy watching anyone if they have real talent so perhaps they should re-name it 'Britain Hosts Talent'

Cor it's like a BNP meeting in here

BRITISH TALENT SHOW FOR BRITISH PEOPLE.

25 useless British acts or 10 Superb foreign acts. I know which one I'd prefer.

For start, they're not called that any more, they're officially BP. For two, the name never referred to the provenance of the petrol, but the nationality of the country. Lastly, there are plenty of examples of products that you're not allowed to call a certain name unless it literally comes from the area it's a named after – champagne, parma ham etc.

By all means have an international talent contest, but don't sell it as being 'talent from Britain'.

As long as it is an entertaining show with talented, funny or likeable contestants then I'm happy.
Looking back over the last couple of years some of the most enjoyable acts have come from overseas.”

Yes that's okay if they're living in Britain, but if they come over from another country just to be on the show it's wrong and they should rename the show to something else.

Agree!
Rename it otherwise it's a totally pointless title.
For all those accusing ppl of racism etc; it's not about the non british acts it's more about the title of the show. If you buy British produce you expect it to have been reared/grown/manufactured in Britain. Ergo, if it says Britain in the title you set yourself up for criticism if it isn't a purely British show based on the population of GB. It's a simple issue to understand...

Also Shepherds' Pie contains no shepherds

Toad in the hole has no Toad

A hotdog contains no dog

These things are utterly irrelevant to the OP's question. Much like your post...

Change the title to Europes Got Talent!

If we let foreigners on our show then they've got to vote for us in the Eurovision Song Contest.

how strange and not at all disturbing and sinister that the issue of nationality should make people all of a sudden strangely invested in the complete accuracy of tv show titles.

on that note, why call it coronation street when some action takes place outside of the actual coronation street? if they want to set scenes outside of coronation street then they shouldn't call the program coronation street. makes a mockery of the title otherwise. i'm not saying i mind action happening outside of coronation street, just that it shouldn't be allowed to happen unless the title's changed.

Meh, who cares... That show lost it's way along time ago IMHO!

Oh does it really matter? It's an entertainment show, not a piece of legal paperwork. If it improves the quality of the show so be it.

It should be for residents of the UK.

Otherwise we need to call it something totally different

If I had a talent, juggling say, hopped on a plane tomorrow to somewhere I've never been before, Vienna say, appeared on Austria's Got Talent, then headed straight to the airport afterwards and come home again, I'd understand if the Austrians felt a bit put out by that.

They would need to tighten up if the rules were that lax.
