Already seeing Blackburn's hideous work (CS)
Last night's episode felt very contrived in terms of comedy.
Some of them included; The button bursting on Steve's shirt Eileen almost catching what we can only assume was porn in Jason's Laptop Steve and Lloyd looking and acting to comical at Sunitta's funeral. It killed the emotional atmosphere Monday's episode when Ken kept forgetting the anniversary card for Deidre Leanne, Gloria and Eva all simultaneously popping their heads forward to stare at Stella There's probably more but Friday's episode is where I noticed it the most. I know Corrie is famous for it's comedy but the past week it is becoming too much and it's not making me laugh. |

But I thought the Rover's fire and aftermath were Phil Collinson's last ever episodes. Plus Stuart has been at Corrie since January. |

I also think that the camera shots have been a bit all over the place, especially when it was the other day zooming out of Dev's window when it was a break.
I don't know if it is his work, but I just thought I'd point it out as it seemed a little odd. |

Surely small things like that are up to the episode writers and the director, rather than the producer. In which case they haven't changed. Ellen Taylor who wrote the first episode has been with the show for years, and the 8.30 ep writer Susan Oudot joined last year under Collinson. Sounds to me like you're just trying hard to pick apart Blackburn's first week, which really had little wrong with it. My only bugbear was Sunita's rubbish funeral, I really don't believe none of her family would attend.

You'd think the producer's job is to write, direct, film and craft every single scene, judging by some of these odd comments.

This is just stupid, all this sort of stuff happened during Collinson's reign too, DS is becoming like a broken record when it comes to SB

MONDAY was his first credited episodes and his work won't be coming through for a bit yet.

It's quite funny to imagine Stuart bursting through the doors at Corrie on his first day shouting "I WANT STEVE'S BUTTON'S TO BURST AT SUNITA'S FUNERAL! I WANT JASON TO WATCH PORN ON HIS LAPTOP! I WANT KEN TO FORGET DEIRDRE'S CARD!!!"

Ken's acting during the episode was absolutely abysmal.
The faces he pulled when he kept mentioning the card, I half expected them to play "D'oh" over the top. |

Corrie has overdone comedy for a long time. Remember a couple of years ago the ridiculous scene of David Platt dragging a radiator down the cobbles which he somehow magically ripped off the wall. Contrived and unfunny.

Haha. I've been one of Blackburn's biggest ED haters, but come on, really? As others have said he wouldn't be responsible for such minor things and I actually enjoyed all the things you listed. Jason looking at porn was a very nice and realistic touch by the writers, something other soaps don't actually do-have dialogue which doesn't directly relate to the storyline.
Steve's button popping was absolute genius too. Sunita wasn't a much loved character, so it was appropriate to have some minor comedy moments. |

Sorry I disagree. I am afraid Stuart Blackburn's sole motivation is to run Coronation Street into the ground and destroy it. The soap has been perfect, no mistakes non-stop for the past 53 years, but it looks like it all is coming to an end due to Stuart Blackburn.

I haven't watched Coronation Street all week, but this is just unfair nitpicking. He's only been credited for a short time and ALREADY people want to criticise.
I'm aware a majority of Emmerdale fans on here despise the work he did over there, but it's not fair to say he's already ruining the show after a week because of a few scenes you didn't find funny. Give the guy a chance! |

Is this a serious thread. His work hasn't even begun yet and this is the first week that he's been credited. Yet people are already moaning. The surrogacy plot, the fire and aftermath, Chesney/Katy are all Phil Collinsons work.
I knew people would carry on their stupid agenda against him, no matter what he does, people will be ripping him apart. I actually thought there was better flow to the episodes this week and it wasn't over the top or too camp as it has been for months now. Subtle hints and humour is better than the panto comedy scenes we've had lately. |

The producer is responsible for the general direction of the show, not individual moments like the Steve and Lloyd comedy, that's more like the director of that particular episode's input!
It seems Stuart's first main decision was casting Beth's niece, which seems like a good start to me. |

It will take a couple of months for the full effect of his work to show. He's finishing off the last of Collinsons SLs. Give the guy a chance. And this is from an ED fan who hates how he ruined the show. But different EPs do better on some shows than on others, so he might be ok.
