It was very odd that a really bad comedian went on just before the disabled lad it all looked a bit set up to me not sure he was a genuine contestant.

I just imagine them hiring an actor.

Producer - "Look we want you to go on BGT and do a little bit of a comedy act"

Actor- " But I'm not a comedian, not funny at all"

Producer- " Great that is just what we want, you can even have a few bits written down with you, just show surprise and look a bit annoyed when they boot you off, Oh and have a go at the audience too just to make it look authentic"

I am probably just being cynical, the whole Simons not here, ask the little girl if it makes it easier knowing he's not there then bingo Simons back just in time for her audition seemed a bit sus too.

Whist I agree there are lots of set ups but the episode we see at home isn't necessarily filmed in that order. The duff comedian could have been seen on a totally different day from Jack but edited together because it makes or good tv.

You think ?

It's simply editing. the featured acts, good or bad, have to be set up for us at home with some kind of backstory so we know if we want to boo or cheer them.

How do you think the show would be received if we just saw the show from the judges point of view?.

no they don't. they have mics positioned around the auditorium.

Spot on flique. Wouldnt surprise me if for the infamous Susan boyle audition, they kept doing takes and camera shots asking Simon cowell to roll his eyes and then edited in the best one for dramatic effect.

This is why i find this forum so entertaining when BGT is on. The sheer level of absurdity people will go to claim a conspiracy is highly amusing

They have those as well but was at audtions and a couple near us were given mics and told to make comments throughout that sort of thing

You are right of course, I'm sure it would be a bit tedious if we saw it just how the judges do. I don't mind the special editing, I enjoy a bit of fluffy tv on a saturday night. I wasn't complaining about how they structure it just discussing it. I wouldn't ever watch something just to moan about it, if I don't like it I don't watch it.

Still doesn't make it "fake" though does it?. Adding some audience participation is exactly what it says on the tin.

And I wasn't having a moan or a dig at you either. As I said back up a few posts, I do find the level of conspiracy over this show quite entertaining. But then if the ratings are anything to go by, it works I suppose.

I'm not convinced with the beauty therapist who sang My Valentine. Considering the way she sang it with the way she had her hair snatched back and her 'dressed down' outfit.

Oh I completely agree.... to me hers was the biggest set up of the night. The beautiful, yet staggeringly shy girl, comes out and performs like a semi pro !!! Nah... not buying the coy eyes down act at all. She was an act definitely recruited way ahead of time.....as I am sure are at least 75% of the acts that make it to screen. The ones that show up willy nilly are thrown in as the comedy turn to add some level of authenticity to the whole thing. Lets face it a show that last night managed to get an audience of 13 million, which is staggering by today's standards, does not get that by sitting back and hoping some good people show up in the queue !!!!! Its micro managed to within an inch of it's life, and rightly so, if they want it to retain its top spot !!

And the few beauty therapists I know wouldn't dream of going on stage with their hair snatched back like that and dressed in leggings and a washed out white t-shirt!

Mate, the whole show is a set up! Everything is edited to look a certain way.

Why dont the BGT critics go & watch `The Voice` instead..Then they would realy have something to complain about

People are allowed to watch it and yet still pick fault you know?

I have to agree with some on here - some of the show stinks of setups, just like x factor, but you expect that and I still watch BGT regardless.

the pretend shocked faces of the judges when the choir emerged from the royal boxes? was ann annoying......as if they didnt know what was going to happen

The way a program is edited together is just as much a set up as the way the acts are presented.

So all reality shows are questionable in this respect.
I will continue to watch BGT regardless and not think about it too much.

Why'd you assume that the critics are complaining?

You can critique a show yet still enjoy a lot about it.

I really enjoyed last Saturdays show, but I'm sure that many of the criticisms are valid and don't necessarily mean that the critic is complaining or didn't enjoy the show as a whole.

The pretend acting/face pulling from the judges I find most annoying . Then again they are forced to do it under orders from Cowell.

Theres a part of me that thinks the 'bad' comedian was only put on to make the next one look good - he wasnt even so bad he was actually good, just plain bad and acting like a dick. He was there because it was 'good TV'

We were at the auditions and one act had people talking. Not because they were so good, but because the judges knew him. In fact, he sang at Amanda's birthday party. Everyone just clapped him, but a couple of acts later we were told that they wanted to do some filming of the audience giving a standing ovation.

The general consensus was that they would edited to make him look like he had been given a standing ovation with lots of cheering, when in fact, he never did. People were saying that the judges want him in the final, so would do what they could to push him.
