Is it just me or did you think Alice was fake?

I didn't get the feeling that she herself was 'fake'.
But I did get the feeling that the way it was presented might have made it appear so.

Right along with the obligatory clip of Simon looking down, then curiously looking up as if to say "Ooh, what's that? NOW I'm interested".
You know the clip. They use it every single time with the singers Simon likes when they try to make out that he was doing something else like scribbling notes and was then suddenly interested as though the singer has suddenly caught his attention

Despite that, I liked her.
The way that the show itself presented her might have come across manipulative and contrived, but I think in regards to Alice herself I thought she came across as pretty natural.
I might be wrong but that's how I saw it.

Sure you didn't mean "Her voice wasn't all that, and that matters"?

It could be kidology. Part of the transformation from the girl next door into the mega star with sequins.
To help with the illusion. As I can't see her voice getting any more interesting.

I think the reason is you thought she had an oriental look about her, I and Mrs. A thought there was a hint of the oriental in her features.

Here is Alice 6 months ago....

Yes...very shy....

Hate it how the show lies to us so much - why not just admit "we found her on youtube and invited her in" rather than bare faced lie...

I don't know what you mean by that. She's performing. And performing in a different context compared to being on BGT.
I was expecting to open the link and witness some damning evidence that she was cocky and full of it in front of people.

But I agree with you that the show itself often misleads and presents contestants in a way of their choosing which exaggerates certain aspects of the person. I agree that I would prefer it if it was a bit more honest in that respect.

The point is she's no beginner . To be able to record in what looks like a top recording studio with session musicians, must mean she had to be pretty good in the first place .

Anyway I don't think she should have chosen that song for an audition . No way you can tell the quality of a singer from that song .

I liked her voice, but the fake shyness got me. She billed herself as a secret singer, blimey if I could sing like that in secret, I'd have a bear for company!

I’m not so sure the nerves were fake, who wouldn’t be nervous? But I do think the line ‘Fredenham like Debenham’ was well rehearsed and it certainly makes you remember her name.

She looked pretty real to me. I mean, way more convincing than even those weird Japanese robots.

If she really is fake, she deserves to go through just for how realistic she looks.

I thought she was ok. Nerves? Sometimes someone can be a different person when they are performing - different mindset.

Yeah. It's no different to certain actors and stand-up comics who come across as shy and introverted when they appear on chat shows. Steve Martin and Rowan Atkinson, for example.

Besides, with that sort of voice, it's not like she needed any kind of gimmick to put herself over.

Okay, fair enough, I confess that I may not have been fully paying attention to any backstory she may have spoken of. I may have just come out of the kitchen at the time and just caught a bit of her talking in front of the judges.

But you can still be a shy performer, and she wasn't singing in public in that youtube link. So you could say that she was relatively 'secret'. It might be a different case if somebody had found youtube clips of her performing in front of audiences and crowds at actual performance venues. But nobody has.

Only if 'pretending to look nervous' is a talent.

That is a fair point. That does lend itself to the idea that she may have been being disingenuous.
But wasn't it Simon Cowell who said that she didn't know how good she was? She didn't actually say that did she?

It was Simon who said that. She never said that she didn't think she was good, and in fact surely by auditioning for BGT and The Voice it suggests she has belief in her ability. What she said was more or less that she had finally decided that she would really try to give it a go and become a singer because that's what she wanted to do. Any normal person would be nervous in this kind of situation. And she mentioned that she had struggled with stage fright before, which again is pretty common even for people of impressive ability

I'll certainly be watching the Voice tonight - I do wonder how much BGT knew about her Voice audition when they gave her such a build up last week.

All part of her act to come across tearful and nervous. Let's see if her nerves were as bad on the Voice tonight.

I read in the Mirror today that she appears much more confident in her The Voice audition, will be watching tonight.

Having watched her on tonight's The Voice, I think it's safe to say that those of us who saw her as fake on BGT have been proved right.

Plus, her audition for tonight's show was awful. No wonder none of the judges turned around.

I thought she dressed find maybe thats her style how she dresses and she felt most comfortable dressing casual?
