what is hdmi true black and should I have it turned on or off please keep the answer simple

It's a manufacturers attempt to improve black levels and push them down..I think Toshiba's have it. It's purely an individual preference as to whether it's on or off. Try both and see what you prefer. There is a chance you won't notice any remarkable differences though...

One further note to add here is that we decided not to use the True Black HDMI setting, as while this did certainly improve black level depth, it led to fairly heavy amounts of shadow detail being squeezed out of the picture

Try it and see but, like a lot of these 'digital enhancements' the overall picture may look worse

I compared on and off it looks better turned on for games and off for tv and films
