Jukebox style challenge?
Tobias.
15-04-2013
Been set a challenge to try and create a touchscreen style jukebox (similar to those in the pubs). We have tried looking online to buy the jukeboxes as a present but they are well expensive, we think cheaper to make our own for the gift. Obviously at the moment box etc is not in the equation. But what I want to know is what would be the best route.

Thought about a tablet with a basic hard drive running the programme, but these screens are a bit small really. Anyone out there made one, or know someone who has? Any ideas or suggestions really would be welcome in this brainstorming stage...

Each to their own, but touch-screen jukeboxes don't really do it for many who want to experience a bit of jukebox nostalgia.
Touch-screen jukeboxes come up quite regularly on eBay and sell from as low as £250.

The best mix of old and new technology is a vintage jukebox wall box/adapter/iPod conversion.
This system replaces the "hideaway" with a wall box installation which used to house the record carousel and all the mechanics and required a four-foot square box, stored "somewhere."
In pubs or bars it'd have been a backroom or a cellar, not really acceptable in a domestic situation.

These conversions are increasing in popularity and are also a better talking point with visitors. Though cost-wise they're no cheaper to assemble than touch-screen versions bought "ready-made."

This is mine.

I've also two full-size vinyl jukeboxes, (not in the house) but then I'm of that "era."
