Haven't looked in for a while - been a bit out of loop, but just had to swing by to say what a treat yesterday was. The slightly more unconventional circumstances meant we could all sit down and wait for the 'main event' in very civilised surroundings (the Acoustic Café) and chat properly, eat/drink and listen to some rather good other performers to boot. BUT boy was the main event worth waiting for. Special thanks to superseasquirt for saving the day with her extra auditorium ticket (after a rather officious minion decided to limit one of our party to just one ticket, when the rest of us got two - to cover those of us queuing at the main stage door) and so 'the plan' worked and we got our front row seats. It was a very relaxed, intimate atmosphere, and in fact Matt himself said he hadn't felt this comfortable performing in a long time - he said "You know like when you buy a fish, and it has to stay in the bag for a bit, you know, to.....settle. Well, I don't need a bag" Aww!! You know the set list thanks to earlier posts, but from my point of view it was lovely to hear Bar Tender live - much more use of the lower register, which I get the distinct feeling we will be hearing a lot more of on the new album, and of course the infamous JCB song - so cute! I will echo what was said earlier about the clarity and purity of the vocals on All That Matters and River particularly, but his voice really was breathtaking - AGAIN! As you say Broken, the Echinacea clearly worked wonders as there was no hint of any problem with the throat yesterday. It went all too quickly and I spoke to a number of 'newbies' afterwards who were equally impressed and said they were leaving wanting to hear more Also there was a reviewer from Acoustic Magazine sitting in the row behind us and from all accounts he left very impressed.... all good news.

A security guard told us Matt had left the building whilst we were hanging around near the Taylor Guitar stand, but as it turned out a group circumnavigated the building afterwards anyway, and did catch him in his car round the back as he was leaving - hence the photos etc that have appeared on Twitter.

My photos aren't all that - despite being so close - the lighting was not very accommodating, but I will hopefully eventually get an opportunity to upload tomorrow and see if any are worth tinkering with and bringing across. Meanwhile, I must just say all in all it was a lovely day catching up with everyone and meeting a few new faces too, although I did feel a bit of fraud when handed flyers for things like the latest electronic loop pedal gizmos - thank goodness no-one asked me what guitars I play !! :O

Great report Minky. It was lovely to catch up with old friends and meet some new people too. I went to see a couple of the other main stage acts, which I enjoyed, but the audience was predominantly male: in stark contrast to the audience for Matt. I didn't actually notice the back of the auditorium but I guess the men ended up there as they didn't have the same determination to get a good view. As we were queuing for the tickets a couple of bemused and amused older men working on one of the guitar stands joked, 'Matt Cardle has been cancelled, he's got a sore throat'. They obviously thought the sight of so many women (and some men) of all ages queuing to see Matt, despite assurances that everyone would get in, was hilarious.

I don't think you were alone there in having more interest in something other than guitars

Yesterday was fantastic, always so many big fans at London events which must be lovely for him. There's never enough time to chat to everyone! Compared to last week the sound was at the other end of the spectrum! One funny moment was when the host came out and said he didn't know how to introduce him and Amanda shouted "Legend!" and he said it twice, I said Matt can probably hear this and it turned out he was right behind the curtain! I guess he knew we were there Oh, and we were sitting next to the journalist guy, he was pretty cool. We told him to write that Matt's a legend in his write up, he said he was scared to write anything bad!!

He was amazing as usual, it was nice to hear Bartender again, love that lower register. I wasn't sure if I was going to get the day off to go so I feel extra lucky for being there. Don't know when the next time will be

Matt's Twitter timeline has gone a bit mad at the moment, with rather a lot of Indonesians tweeting about him and Blue doing Miss World.

I am guessing he is off travelling soon - USA maybe end of this week, based on a tweet from Will to Brian Edwards. Probably to film 2nd video. Then whether he comes back and flies off again, he is heading to Indonesia for the 28th. He tweeted see you soon to Dannii a few weeks ago also, so I am wondering if he is going to Australia too since he is down that end of the world. An exciting few weeks coming up, anyway - especially as the 2nd single will surely be going out to radio soon - they usually release a lyrics video, before filming the official one, so that could be really soon too.

Thanks for the review Minky - always love a bit of an extended review. I am particularly pleased that "newbies" were impressed - sometimes I worry that it is only his uber fans at these things - and since one of Matt's real strengths is live performance, he can't win new fans if he is only playing to the already converted.

You beat me to it Ped I've just read that lol

Great to get info about the tracks!!

I love this bit!!

The follow up single ‘When You Were My Girl’ started out as an idea in Los Angeles in July this year.

“I had a session with JC Chasez (N’Sync) and his producer Jimmy Harry. We came up with this really awesome bass line, which I revisited a few weeks later when I was back in the UK. I continued writing to it and a few days later, the track was finished. I co-produced the song with Toby Smith and Jamie Scott and it’s got a real Marvin Gaye, Jackson-esque type feel to it. Though lyrically the song talks of betrayal and deception, musically its got quite and uplifting vibe to it. I’m really proud of it”

ETA For the track ‘In Chains’ had to go to wiki for the meaning of trip-hop

And Portishead lol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portishead_(band)

Thanks, an excellent piece, well-written. I've still to look up trip-hop.

In my attempt to understand what trip hop is I've just come across a foetus singing-just a step too far for me. (Massive Attack-Teardrop) Am I on the right lines?

So Matt tweeted JC Chavez just over a week ago:

Matt Cardle ‏@matt_cardle_uk 26 Aug
NICE!x"@JCChasez: VMA's were fun. Next year @GirlRadical are gonna have a blast. Here is there very first cover tune http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHpkX...ature=youtu.be …"

and I wondered then whether he had been writing with him, because the tweet was otherwise just so random. That jogged something in my memory - do any of you remember the restaurant he did the random Robbie Keane duet with in L.A. ? Well someone who worked there (not sure in what capacity) was a lady called Autumn Federici and she raved about Matt's voice and I remember her saying she was going to speak to JC about Matt. Well she must have, because it looks like she is really involved with JC and Jimmy Harry and I just spotted on this Youtube video, that she is listed as one of the producers, together with JC and Jimmy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHpkXct1aLg

Really interesting that the next single could have been kicked off due to a random night out with Robbie Keane.

Magical stuff. I remember thinking they were such a breath of fresh air.

Crabbie I remember that twitter conversation!! She was totally blown away by his voice. So this could well be the outcome of it!

Do we know who the major label is backing the international release?
