Having lived in Scotland for the past 3 years and now spending a few days in London, I'd forgotten the delights of having a thin layer of scum on every cup of tea.

I lived in Oxford for 21 years before moving to Scotland last year and I couldn't believe the change in water! Not getting any limescale in the kettle took me ages to get used to! now I can't imagine drinking the water down south

Ewww, that's gross, what do you mean a thin layer of scum, I live in Manchester so thankfully don't experience this.

Pour the boiled water through some tights. Preferably clean ones!

To be fair you probably do, you just don't notice it. The water in Scotland is unbelievably smooth compared to England. I never noticed until I moved up here.

I knew there was a difference in the water but I didn't know about scummy tea I just thought it tasted crap. My tap water is really nice and I get annoyed with my family when they buy bottled water. It's such a waste of money.

I'm just having a cuppa now and it's not the best.

For the second time in two days it has a bit of a metallic taste to it.

Well, I say metallic. It's a bit hard to describe. Like drinking a cuppa that's had a brillo pad in it

I can only think the kettle needs de-scaling.

You don't get this problem with water in the north (water seems to be the only decent commodity we have - we have not jobs or money!!!)

As well as making a better brew - you'll find shampoo goes much further in the north than it does in the south!

I actually live in the north east! So I am pretty far north.

As I say, I think I need to buy some de-scaler

I'm in the north west - I would have thought the water would have been even better up by you! Maybe its an East V West thing. We lived in the south east for a while and the water was crap! We had lots of money - but couldn't get a decent brew for the life of us. We had to filter the boiled water through tights (clean navy blue ones).

I live in east central scotland and I have never had a limescale problem. It must be all the rain we get and no sun.

My sister once lived in Glenrothies - and we always had a nice cuppa when we visited her. The fish and chips were vile - but the tea was nice!

My sister lives not far from me and I never enjoy a cuppa at her house. I always think it has a funny taste

But I think that may be because she buys cheap teabags

Doesn't she realize I have high standards!

I've just had a thought. Maybe I just need a new kettle.

Mine is stainless steel, but rather old.

Not that I know much about these things

Yeah that's near me. best chip shops in fife IMO are Valente's in Kirkcaldy and Anstruther fish bar if you are ever in the area again.
