Scummy tea
Having lived in Scotland for the past 3 years and now spending a few days in London, I'd forgotten the delights of having a thin layer of scum on every cup of tea.

I lived in Oxford for 21 years before moving to Scotland last year and I couldn't believe the change in water! Not getting any limescale in the kettle took me ages to get used to!
now I can't imagine drinking the water down south

I knew there was a difference in the water but I didn't know about scummy tea I just thought it tasted crap. My tap water is really nice and I get annoyed with my family when they buy bottled water. It's such a waste of money.

I'm just having a cuppa now and it's not the best.
For the second time in two days it has a bit of a metallic taste to it. Well, I say metallic. It's a bit hard to describe. Like drinking a cuppa that's had a brillo pad in it ![]() I can only think the kettle needs de-scaling. |

As well as making a better brew - you'll find shampoo goes much further in the north than it does in the south! |

You don't get this problem with water in the north (water seems to be the only decent commodity we have - we have not jobs or money!!!)

I live in east central scotland and I have never had a limescale problem. It must be all the rain we get and no sun.

My sister lives not far from me and I never enjoy a cuppa at her house. I always think it has a funny taste
![]() But I think that may be because she buys cheap teabags ![]() Doesn't she realize I have high standards! |

I've just had a thought. Maybe I just need a new kettle.
Mine is stainless steel, but rather old. Not that I know much about these things

My sister once lived in Glenrothies - and we always had a nice cuppa when we visited her. The fish and chips were vile - but the tea was nice!
