More on the retune.

An autotune of my Humax HDR-FOX T2 was a bit of a failure, with pixelation and freezing, so I decided to try a manual tune. I live on the Fylde coast, so I guess Winterhill supplies my signal. The problem was (is) I don't know what the correct channel numbers are. I have a copy of a publication called Television Viewers Guide - 2010 Edition, for Winterhill it gave channel numbers 62,59,54,58,61,55, but as it is a 2010 edition, it is possibly out of date because some of the numbers above do not have any stations available. I had a different selection of numbers which I used in the manual search, they were: 50, 59, 54, 58, 49,55, 57. Most of the popular Freeview stations were found successfully, including the five main ones but, switching the Humax through the programme numbers from 1 (BBC1) to each of the Freeview programmes listed in Radio Times, I found I was missing ITV3 (10), Quest (38), 5USA (31), 5* (30).

It was suggested that I try Ch800 onwards, but I haven't been able to find 800, it obviously has not been installed. Does anyone know what channel numbers are linked to those missing stations.

ITV3 etc. are Mux COM4, which I believe should be UHF channel 58 at WH.

Tick the 'Detailed view' box and your channel numbers will be listed in the grey columns. Also a compass bearing to the available transmitters is given, use the transmitter that your aerial points to.

I also live on the Fylde coast and would point out that it's possible to get a fairly strong signal from M-y-P in Wales even though your aerial is at 90 degrees to Wales when pointing at WH. My HD Fox T2 gives the choice of England, Wales or IoM when doing a first -time autotune, although, Humax-fashion, buggers the future recording list. However, manually tuning has always been successful: personally, I always do a blank scan (aerial out) before scanning from scratch.

This is a pointless operation on the SD models (although repeated many times on a certain forum) because you wouldn't be given the 'Save' option at the end so the Humax kept the channels it had. Later software versions deleted all old channels before starting an 'Automatic Search' but the removal of old channels had nothing to do with the aerial being in or out. I have no idea of what the situation is with the HD machines.

According to the ukfree.tv site transmitter coverage maps, the Fylde coast is one of many areas that the troublesome Haslingden transmitter squirts its signal over causing re-tune problems.

Winter Hill has just (10 April) had a channel change event, for 4G clearance I believe.

Tassium's post above has the correct new channels for Winter Hill, and if I remember right (it was over a week ago ) they are good for the forseeable future.

Thanks above and OP, we've been experiencing freezing too near winter hill. I hope this fixes it.

Since the OP was querying the HDR Fox my post was valid!

I wasn't questioning your post, as I said I have no idea what the situation is with the HD models. So do the HD models allow you to save 'no channels'?

From memory the HD and HDR also delete all the stored channels at the start of an automatic search (I'm not going to try it right now because it also deletes all your scheduled recordings). So to clear the channels before doing a manual search all you need to do is start an auto-search then cancel it immediately. There's no need to remove the aerial if you stop the auto-search before it finds any channels.

Well that is the same as the SD models running the latest software. On earlier software, where channels weren't deleted at the beginning of an Automatic Search, if a search was started (auto or manual) with no chance of picking up new channels (aerial out) then the 'Save' option wasn't offered at the end of the search. This meant the machine wasn't left in a state of having no channels, a don't burn your bridges feature.

I can't remember if there's a save option on the HDR, iirc it stores channels as it finds them, but if it finds duplicate channels from more than one region it asks which region you want at the end of the search.

I could have worded that better, it deletes your recording schedule not your recordings.

and with version 1.02.32 (currently HDR only) it does something sensible with the answer.
