Where were.these 700,000 followers when her last album was released? She is proof twitter followers don't matter.

Cher absolutely slaying. The boyband are always going to come at the top, but second behind 1D is a pretty great achievement.

Rylan is at 834,056 followers (more than many on this list) and he hasn't even released music yet

Also Jedward are on 775,901 and they're still working on music and have released it...

Does the number of twitter followers translates to album sales? I'm trying to work out the relevance of this...

It doesn't LOL.
I suppose it's more about the level of interest in someone...

Weren't half of all the followers of Justin Belieber (or whatever his name is) revealed to be faked? Apart from One Direction, Cher, Olly and Little Mix I'd half all the others.

It doesn't really.
also people with big follower numbers end up on a "follow list" for when make fake twitter followers for sale as they can soak up the numbers.

There's also the One Direction members and JLS members.

Louis Tomlinson: 10,177,902

I'm not commenting on who is the best here
However, Zayn is a special case in this twitter thing, he doesn't use it that much because he has had quite a few problems with agressive fans towards his GF and agressive people towards him because of his religion.

where would the lovely Diana Vickers rate on this list?

Twitter followers don't mean much considering most of them are either inactive or fake plus fans making multiple fan accounts and following them on their personals too, one example been one direction; Only 43% of Harry's are actually active, 52% of Niall's, 45% of Louis', 50% of Liam's and 57% of Zayn's.

You can check anyone's on here: http://fakers.statuspeople.com/Fakers/Scores

I can't quote now off the top of my head but I know I've found artists with loads of followers before who actually aren't doing very well at all. I always did wonder what the significance was.

Perhaps that's a reason.

I just checked Phillip Schofield and only 26% of his followers are real/active Not a singer of course, but still.

I follow Philip but as I haven't logged on to my twitter for about 3 months I don't know what his latest twitter rants are ! I am sure there are loads of posters like me. Have a twitter account but rarely use it but we aren't fake

ETA I have just checked my own and apparently I have 8% fake followers. That is strange as every friend on my follow list is someone I know personally

I agree, I think inactive accounts are much more numerous than fake ones... Mine was inactive for more than 1 year before I decided to give it another shot...

The ones that are annoying are the ones that pop up, follow you and spam you in order to get you interested in their business, and then unfollow you after a couple of days if you ignore them. But they follow then unfollow, so they should not boost celebs account too much...
