We eventually opted for this LG from Argos

LG 42LM3450 42 Inch Full HD 1080p Freeview 3D LED TV. £379.99 £479.99 Save £100.00
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...er/5299672.htm

Just our luck, we paid £418 only to find a few days later it was down to £380, but its all good.
PQ is great and the sound is good , only problem is trying to get the DLNA to work ?

What are you trying to get it to do?, people seem to expect a LOT more of DLNA than it actually gives.

You're most likely thinking completely wrong about that, at least as what I consider 'streaming'. You should be able to read and display a file stored on the PC, as long as the directory is shared, and media sharing is enabled.

I bought one myself and give it a personal recommendation. You may need to spend some time fiddling about with the settings (the default ones are ludicrous) but it is worth ther effort.”

I like Richer Sounds but their stuff is normally end of range

As with any other retailer, if Richers are selling graded stock they will tell you.

They do carry some end of line stock, but they also carry plenty of stock which is current, like their Onkyo range....

That often hasn't been the case in the past!.

Evidence?

The comment is potentially slanderous without it.

I have bought graded stuff from RS on a number of occasions and it was always made clear to me what I was buying.

If they don't, that is illegal and they need to be brought before trading standards.

So I'd like to see some evidence that TS has been involved in cases like this.

You could try looking for evidence of past court cases?, presumably there may have been some? - I certainly know that at least some RS branches have been reported to Trading Standards in the past for this.

However, it's likely to be less of a potential problem now, as grading stock is tending to 'disappear'. Sony stopped supplying it a year or so back, selling it all themselves on-line, and have now apparently stopped that - with all faulty returns now shipped off to Russia.

Did you expect to find anything?, are such things ever available on-line - I couldn't even find anything about two local murder cases.

I strongly suspect that if RS had been pulled up for illegally misrepresenting the goods they sell, this information would be very public.

In the absence of any evidence I can only conclude that this is scaremongering.

Personal experience, plus full knowledge in the trade - but when murder convictions aren't 'very public' I doubt a bollocking from trading Standards is going to be.

But have it your own way, you obviously know far better than the entire UK TV trade

I brought this up a while back on AV Forums. I have had a couple of things from RS in the past that were questionable.
Think is was a YAMAHA amp that had a protective film on the LCD display that looked as if it had been re-applied.

Nigel Goodwin,

I saw your unsubstantiated and clearly untrue posts, and wanted to post to clarify.

All the products we sell are brand new, in sealed boxes, and come with a full manufacturer warranty; unless clearly stated otherwise. For example some end-of-line clearance units may be ex-display, ex-service, etc, however we always make this very clear when this is the case on both our website and in-store.

As you’re no doubt aware, we've been trading for over 30 years, and have many millions of satisfied customers from our 52 nationwide stores. It would hardly be good customer service for us to mislead customers by passing off seconds as brand new stock, not to mention illegal!

Meanwhile, if any genuine customers have any queries whatsoever then please feel free to PM me where I will be only too happy to help.

Many thanks,

John Clayton

Nice in theory, but it's common knowledge within the trade that this has happened, and I'm sure you are fully aware of it (and wouldn't admit it).

Perhaps it's by accident?, or the actions of individual store managers?, but I've personally seen four incidents over your 30 years of trading. This would obviously be the tip of the iceberg, as it would be pretty unusual for customers to bring it to my attention, and ask for my professional opinion (which all four cases did). Two of the cases were actually packed in non-original boxes, so were exceptionally obvious.

I would be remiss though without warning of the possibility, not just at RS, but anywhere - and it's a good idea to inspect the packaging which is generally pretty obvious if it's not got the original sealing.

I've no problems with Richer, and I would buy there if they had something I wanted, and the price was right (which it usually is). My younger brother has actually spent vast sums in RS over the years, no idea if he bought graded or new as he's too far away.

No problem. Argos have a money back policy, 14 days I think. Just take it back and repurchase at the new price.

Many years ago at a shop called Ketts, which had several branches in West London, I bought a small cassette recorder (remember those) just before Xmas as a present. Back home I checked it out and found it already had batteries in it, not any batteries but Boots branded ones.
I went straight back, spoke to the manager and said I believed it to be second hand as there were batteries in it. He said they didn't sell second hand goods but they did sometimes fit batteries to demonstraite items to potential customers. In fact I was lucky to get a set of batteries free of charge. I then asked him why they would go down the road to Boots when they carried batteries in stock and showed him what was inside. At this point he lost it, saying he could sell all these he had and took it away giving me my money back.
I never went to that shop again and it is now long gone.

These days I wouldn't take it back but go straight to trading standards. We live and learn.

And what would you expect Trading Standards to do? - I suspect you have an exaggerated idea of their powers, and when they bother exercising them.

I remember another company who had a 'reputation' for this sort of thing around 20 years ago -- Colorvision. They had a number of discount places around the country, and sold TVs for as little as £100 when everyone else was charging £200+ for the same thing. Sets with weird foreign-sounding names such as "Beon", with low specification and, as it turned out, were continental European cheapies which they'd acquired as seconds and repackaged as brand-new items.

They were hauled in front of trading standards, and did end up being splashed all over the news because of it. They disappeared a short time later.

So your assertion that it's "well known" to the trade (and no-one else) is rather thin, frankly.

(As an aside, my dad did manage to grab hold of a ridiculous bargain from them -- a package of a CD midi system, Beon 20" TV and "Perdio" VCR for £350 -- in 1992. Even if they were seconds, it was utterly impossible to come anywhere near that price at the time in Dixons. The TV and VCR is still going as far as I know; the stereo expired quite quickly but that's the luck of the draw).
