The X factor 2013 live shows could see the voting stats revealed live in an effort to boost ratings.

The methods of revealing the outcome of the public votes was tested over in the States last year and now the UK show is set to follow suit.

Bosses apparently hope it will stop shock exits such as Ella Henderson’s last year.

A source said: “Simon is hoping this will encourage the public to vote for the people who deserve to be there.

“It’s where give viewers more control and stop any backlash.”

It was also recently reported that this year’s live finals will see another new twist with free online voting.

Again, the US version of the show has given users the ability to cast their votes in a number of different ways, including via social networks such as Twitter.

Channel 5, Sky 1 and the BBC have all experimented with free online voting, but producers were said to be reluctant over fears it would cut the money made from the phone votes.

They did this on the US show last year and there was speculation they'd do it last year on ours.

I think it would harm, rather than boost ratings myself. The only thing I agree with is it might prevent an 'Ella' situation where a talented act is overlooked.

The online free voting will just give the groups (boybands, especially) a ticket to the final But then again Tate beat Emblem3 and Fifth Harmony to the win on the US show.

Skeptical about this though. Surely shock exits (= media attention) is what the show thrives on?

There was certainly a lot of headlines when Ella went, did the ratings rise after that?

You can still have shock exits even with the rankings revealed.

It can also cause complacency when acts are always near the top.

Like how Vino plummeted from Top 3 every week - to being eliminated the next week.

This will just ruin the excitement of it. If one person is getting the most votes week after week, it will just become boring and it'll be obvious who will win it. I always look forward to the Xtra Factor after the final to see the full results of all the shows so I think it might spoil things.

Bad idea! This just ruined the X Factor USA version. Just makes it clear who's going to win and just influences the vote. I like the fact that X Factor provides shock points such as Ella being eliminated when everyone thought she would be in the final - a factor that will no longer exist with this layout.

Yet another way to make the show worse and more manipulated than it already is.

That's exactly why he's done it, he doesn't want to risk someone like Maloney posing a threat to win.

I hate this system. It completely gets rid of the shock factor. I love the results time because every time Dermot gets to the name calling, you are literally on your toes because you have next to no idea whether someone will be safe or not! This gets rid of the beauty of the bottom 2. Because we won't be shocked (or in fact less shocked). I wasn't shocked at all by Vino coming into the bottom 2, because no matter how hard he tried, he remained at #3. There was clearly a large gap already from Carly + Tate to Vino and the others. But we wouldn't have known this large gap existed if we didn't know about the results, thus it would be much harder for us to know who is actually safe and who isn't. This is what I loved about the XF - it's the speculation. I loved it!

Then there's a risk that people jump on the bandwagon:

I hardly think Tate was top 3 material in the first live show to be honest. But he came top! And so everyone thought he was good, and people must inevitably jumped on the bandwagon admitting that maybe he may actually be good after all (Demi did this with Vino). Honestly the voting order is so random sometimes - it's really not a good idea. Anyone who comes 1st in the 1st live show may continue to be 1st/2nd merely because psychologically their first win has told the public that they may actually be good and they may listen to the material differently.

If people thought from the beginning that Maloney was actually good, then the result would have been very different. As sofabet has shown, people like supporting a winner more than wasting their money on a loser. It's the brute truth. People may initially changed their preconception that Maloney was bad/cheesy and that he actually sang beautifully (ugh).

Overall, revealing order of results = bad.

its a bad idea, american idol did something like this and it really didnt effect the show much other than making bad acts get eliminated they did it the right way.. i think they should just revile the top 3 on a couple of weeks and thats it... the results last year where tate-carly-vino-same-carly-tate-vino-same-tate-carly-elbem3-same and then tate was 1st carly was 2nd... the only shock was fiith harmony coming 3rd.. even tho they should have won as they where the best in top 4/final week
