Not official, but most people have come to the general consensus that it will probably start on May 1st. Radio Times will officially be updated tomorrow for 1st May, so check back later and it may be confirmed.

Btw, Lord Sugar hasn't tweeted yet but claimed that The Apprentice start date will be "real soon".

Thanks. I saw an advert the other day on TV and it just said coming soon.

Love this show.

just noticed this update on wiki (by a FM? )

Season nine was billed to start at the end of March 2013 but this has since been changed. Reason for the delay is unclear however it is understood it will now officially start on the 1 May 2013.

It wasn't me, but thanks for the vote of confidence! I do edit articles on The Apprentice a lot though.

Just seen

However, the RT schedule is subject to change so watch this space! Tbh, though, I think that the first place we'll hear it from is Lord Sugar himself, so I'll pay close attention to his Twitter feed in the next few days.

I'm actually be quite glad if The Apprentice started the week after, because I'm going to be abroad from 4 May to 2 June, so I won't be able to watch it for a while. I'd rather watch the first four or five episodes all in one go when I get back than to watch the first one, and spend the next few weeks wondering what is happening!

It'd better be worth the wait. Last year was like watching paint dry.

Why didn't you like last year's? It didn't have so many memorable people (though there were a few - Ricky, Adam and Gabrielle were all quite memorable), but it had some good tasks, and no other series has ever had such good red herrings. I thought it was better than the third series of Young Apprentice anyway - which was a shame, because Young Apprentice was better in general than the adult series in my opinion.

Wow! My favourite quote is, 'If I was in charge of a sinking ship, my first concern would be the women and children...' I suppose it's too much to hope that that is a repeat of the Syed and Ruth boat task from Series 2?

There is a girl who says, 'I deliver task after task after task' and I think, 'I am the most reliable person in this process' who sounds exactly like Maria Doran! Not just because of the accent, but the whole tone of her voice sounds just like her. Maria's older sister?

I will say right now, without even having seen any of the candidates, that I think a woman will win this series. There hasn't been a female winner on the main adult show since the prize changed, and I think they'll want a female winner sometime soon. Also, there have been more male than female winners, but only by a very narrow margin (if you include Young Apprentice) and if a woman wins this one, it will be even. Not that I think Lord Sugar worries about that so much, but it's possibly a factor.

I can't give a short answer to that, I'm afraid. It's been said before by others, but I find it very difficult to put my finger on why I stopped enjoying the show. Changing the prize from working for Sugar to an investment has definitely been a factor: the final of the show used to be a crescendo, with two candidates pitted against each other in a final task with all the horrible people who'd been fired coming back to participate and cause trouble. With the new format, the show just sort of peters out, and we very suddenly see the candidates in a very different light when they present their business plans. It doesn't work for me.

There's also an element of fatigue, perhaps. The show's been going for nearly a decade now and this not only makes the show less interesting to watch, but the candidates themselves, who will have watched the show, know how to play the game and all the traps to look out for, and sometimes it feels like we're just watching them go through the motions.

Also I've never watched Young Apprentice. There's only so much Apprentice I can take :P

I find it so annoying that they're getting all us fans hyped up as early as this when it might not start to the 8th May. SO ANNOYING!!!

I very much recommend that you give Young Apprentice a try - Series 3 was a bit of a flop, but Series 1 and 2 were really good. It had the same format in the finals with the previous candidates coming back to help, so that may endear it to you. Series 2 was the best, as it had some great people - out of the final seven, six of them were people I could justifiably see winning. The semi-final spoiled it a little as LS fired four people in one go, including the entire losing team by default, but regardless it was a very enjoyable series. Here is the link to the first episode, all of the rest can be found on YouTube:

I think the bit in bold is the crux of it for me. They've seen the business plans from the start, so they already know which ones they are interested ones and which ones they aren't. It then feels less of a 'natural selection' at the end of each task, as Sugar will keep the candidates whose business plans interest him, regardless of how well (or poorly) they perform on each task.

I know the 'job' they were offered with Sugar wasn't the be all and end all but it seems a far better 'prize' than the investment opportunity.

Sugar likes all the business plans of the Final 16. The ones he doesn't like are binned upon application. He made this clear at the start of Series 8.

You are rightTFX. LS definitely would not have invited anyone with dodgey business plans into the final 16.

Is there actually any confirmation The Apprentice will air on Wednesdays? Surely it could credibly start on Thursday 2nd, just like the last YA.

I think that was the major difference between Series 7 and Series 8. In Series 7, Helen's and Jim's business plans were awful (and so was Tom's arguably, as it got a lot of criticism as even though Tom won, they ultimately went with a different business plan.) Sugar obviously realised that flaw and changed it with Series 8. Even though Jade's business plan was quite weak, it wasn't dreadful and possibly there are some people who could have sold it to him.

Every adult series to date has aired on Wednesdays. Young Apprentice has varied: Series 1 aired on Wednesdays, Series 2 on Mondays and Series 3 on Thursdays. Series 3 was broadcast in an earlier time slot as well. With regards to Series 9, I am expecting it to air on Wednesdays, as that has always been the norm.
